I am diabetic for latv20 yrs. Sugar levels are 140/210 before and after food. No hypertension till now. Yesterday I checked my blood pressure as 150/98. And creatine level 1.4. Doctor advised stamlo 2.5 (after breakfast) and nefrosave tablets.(twice a day) diabetic medicines are also changed. Volitrion0 .2 one tab in the morning 1/2 tab in the evening and one under 5 mg during lunch. What could be the reason for the sudden increase in blood pressure? Also why sudden change in creatine level? How to control this? Also suggest you to recommend foods which will lower bp and creatine levels.

As you mentioned that you have diabetes since 20 years which seems to be the cause of increased creatinine which indicates effect on your kidney. Bp increases with age due to hardening of blood vessels. You should strictly control your blood sugar and bp. Follow advise of your treating physician. Take strict diabetic diet and low salt diet to avoid further deterioration of kidney functions.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. The glucose levels mentioned are high, as ideally in a well controlled diabetes patient fbg should be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg and pp should be 150 to 170 mg, plus hba1c% should be < 6.5%(not mentioned) at your age. Plus the bp 150/90 mm hg does necessitate treatment with a drug like amlodepine. Another aspect is that your creatinine is a bit high, it should be preferably closer to 1 mg. All these point out to need for achieving a stricter blood glucose control and reduction in bp. So please follow all the instructions given by your consulting doctor and take the medications. Thanks.

Dear sir s. Creatinine is not a disease. It is a test which reflects kidney function. 1.4 mg % is not very alarming result. But you said it is a sudden development. So when did you got your s. Creatinine checked previous to that? And what was that level. There are two major reasons for kidney dysfunction. Uncontrolled blood sugar and uncontrolled bp. Besides good sugar control with any medication, there is a specific class of drugs called sglt2 inhibitors which in addition to controlling sugar levels also have protective effect on kidneys. You can discuss with your doctor about this. Similarly, besides good bp control, a class of bp lowering agents called ace inhibitors or arb have kidney protective benefit. Talk to your doctor about this.
