Respected sir I am suffering for ulcerative colitis how much time to take for recover and what medicine.

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease, the cause of which is still not clearly known, but can be multifactorial from diet, infections,genetics, environment etc. First a proper diagnosis is of utmost importance as all ulcers may not not be due to ulcerative colitis. Usually a colonoscopy gives an idea about the diagnosis and biopsy is confirmatory. The treatment depends upon severity of symptoms ranging from simple oral medicines to oral or intravenous high dose steroids. The medical therapy helps in remission (resolution of symptoms) and may need to be continued to maintain remission. Sometimes the medicines need to be taken for a very long time based on return of symptoms after stopping medicines. Surgery is usually reserved for patients not responding to medicines, who develop significant side effects due to medicine or develop complications like severe bleeding, hugely dilated colon etc. Also, there is need for surveillance as patients with UC, as they are at a higher risk of colorectal cancer and may require surgery for that as well.
