330 is high, yours is normal. Yes it can be lowered by statins, but that is not science, it is just a popular belief, like Hanuman, Ganesha, horoscope etc.

Yes appropriate statin dose would definitely help you lower the cholesterol but not permanently, you should modify your lifestyle ,lose some weight and then there might be a possibility to discontinue it.
