Shilajit

Shilajit is a sticky and thick substance which resembles tar. It can range from white to dark brown and is found abundantly in the Gilgit Baltistan (Pakistan), Altai Mountains, Caucasus mountains, Tibet mountains and the Himalayas. It is an Ayurvedic medicine and is very beneficial for health because it contains at least 85 minerals in ionic state, humic acids, triterpenes, etc. It derives its name from the Sanskrit word which means ‘rock conqueror.’

Nutritional Value of Shilajit

Shilajit is known as mineral wax or mineral pitch in English. It is also called black asphaltum, barahshin, dorobi and shargai. According to researchers, Shilajit comes under the family of vegetables because of its appearance. It bears close resembles to a cactus like plant called Euphorbia royleana due to striking similarity in its composition. Shilajit has biological as well as geological origin and has traces of amino acids and vitamins. It has glycerol and has medicinal properties.

Health Benefits of Shilajit

Mentioned below are the best health benefits of Shilajit
Health Benefits of Shilajit

Supports fertility

Shilajit is known to support fertility in men. If consumed twice daily for a period of 90 days, it can cure a person suffering from infertility. According to studies, sperm count of men using Shilajit increased by 12% or more. A man wanting to start a family should adopt this method as it is considered natural and safe.

Promotes the level of Testosterone naturally

Shilajit does much more than increase the quality and quantity of a man’s sperns. Men who consume Shilajit on a regular basis enjoy high testosterone levels. This also helps to maintain a better mood and thinking capacity. High levels of testosterone in a man’s body, protects muscle tissues and reduces fats in the body. It is vital for a person to consume Shilajit is he wants to be healthy and to achieve a stronger immune system.

Enhances performance

According to studies, men who consume Shilajit have high levels of energy and usually feel better about their body image. This is primarily because of the nutrient density which Shilajit is filled with. Shilajit works at a cellular level to improve the energy production of the human body. Due to this, a person consuming it might recover faster and feel fresher. This is because of cell nourishment which Shilajit provides.

Protects the heart

Many studies show that Shilajit improves blood circulation in the heart and it also make your heart pump blood in a much healthier way. Due to its antioxidant properties, the chance of cardiovascular damage is reduced to a certain extent. Those suffering from heart ailments should consume Shilajit. Studies also show that the possibility of a heart attack is greatly reduced due to the consumption of Shilajit on a regular basis.

Supports memory functioning

Enhanced testosterone levels play an extremely important role on the way you think. Researchers have found out that a small molecule called dibezno-alpha-pyrones can make a huge difference in your thinking capacity. These molecules hamper the breakdown of chemicals which are required for memory. Consuming Shilajit is beneficial in this case because it contains fulvic acid which supports and promotes brain health and memory functioning.

Promotes healthy aging

Studies show that the antioxidant activity present in Shilajit can protect us against cellular damage, this cellular damage is the main culprit for speeding the aging process of your skin, liver, lungs and heart. The fulvic acid present in Shilajit releases minerals and antioxidants directly inside the cells where it is needed the most. This mineral protects the cell from radical harm and speedy aging. If you want to age gracefully and slowly, it is of utmost importance to consume Shilajit due to its magical age reversal properties.

Improves the symptoms of alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimers causes problems with thinking, behaviour and memory. Drugs are prescribed to improve these symptoms, but they rarely cure alzheimers from the root. The molecular composition of Shilajit slows or prevents the progression of this disorder. Since Shilajit contains fulvic acid, this antioxidant prevents the accumulation of tau protein and contributes in the cognitive heath of a person.

Therefore, Shilajit should be used under the prescription and guidance of a doctor.

Cultivation of Shilajit

Shilajit is usually produced over a time frame of several million years from organic matter and plants trapped under a layer of rocks in the mountains. The organic matter and plants are transformed into rich mineral mass due to pressure. It originates at altitudes of 16,000 to 18,000 feet. The environment where it is found is usually free from chemicals, fertilizers and pollutants. It is found in the Tibet mountains, Caucasus mountains, Altai mountains and the Himalayas.

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine & Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- It is premature ejaculation that you are suffering from, hypersensitivity being its cause. The penile glans, known simply as the penis head, provides males with a hypersensitive area built for stimulation and pleasure. Most men blame their performance issues on anxiety or pleasure, two legitimate and viable excuses, but the glan of the penis creates the most common source of unexpected ejaculations. For circumcised men, the problem may not exist; for uncircumcised men, the issue can run rampant. Self medication or expecting results with a single medicine will not solve your issue. PE can be completely cured with the help of medications, so you need to consult a good sexologist for that purpose. Medications along with changes in diet and daily schedule, can solve your issue permanently.

Cell Phone in Pocket & Male Infertility: Effects on Sperm!

Cell Phone in Pocket & Male Infertility: Effects on Sperm!

Can you imagine your life without your cell phone? Difficult isn’t it, but did you know that these devices could be harming your sexual health? Most people keep their cell phones in their jeans or trouser pockets or clipped to a belt on their waist. While this does make the phone easily accessible, it also affects male fertility.

There are two main aspects to male fertility; the motility and viability of sperm cells. Motility refers to the sperm cell’s ability to swim through body fluids and fertilise the egg. Viability refers to the number of living vs non-living sperm cells and sperm cell abnormalities.

Cell phones are constantly working even when we’re not talking into them. They constantly send out and receive electromagnetic frequency radiation to keep your social media accounts updated. Given the close proximity of the cell phone and your body, this energy may be absorbed by your genitals. As a result, the sperm cells may change shape and lose their ability to attach themselves to an egg. The structural abnormality may impede the sperm’s ability to swim and thus reduce motility. Semen exposed to this type of radiation also has a high level of free radicals.

In order to produce sperm, the testicles maintain a specific temperature that is ideal for sperm health. Smartphones typically also have a higher temperature than that of the room you are in. Thus, when you keep your cell phone in your pant pockets, they increase your skin temperature in the groin by approximately 2 degrees as well as the temperature within your testicles. This slows down the production of sperm cells and can even kill them thus, reducing sperm cell viability.

In the ideal world, a cell phone should only be carried in a bag, but almost all men may cringe at the thought of carrying a bag. Hence, take your phone out of your pocket whenever possible, for example while driving, at a restaurant etc. The use of Ayurvedic aphrodisiacs can also lower the harmful effects of cell phones. The dried roots of asparagus or safed musli can help increase sperm count and rejuvenate a man’s libido. Ashwagandha, shilajit and kawach are also very effective Ayurvedic herbs to treat male infertility. Increasing your intake of food rich in vitamin C and E can also help deal with the stress in sperm caused by phone radiation. The use of these herbs has negligible side effects and hence can be safely used by men of all ages. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Ovarian Cysts - Ways Ayurveda Can Help You Treat It!

What is an ovarian cyst?
If a follicle present in the ovaries grows beyond 2cm in size, it is called an ovarian cyst. In an ovarian cyst, fluid accumulates inside a thin wall in the ovaries. The size of the ovarian cyst varies in size from person to person. It is most common in women during their fertile period, but it can happen anytime.

What is the cause of an ovarian cyst?
Follicles are produced in the ovaries under normal conditions. One of these follicles matures into an egg every month. It is a very normal process and happens spontaneously in most cases. However, under certain circumstances and conditions, these follicles fail to rupture and turn into a fluid filled cyst. In rare cases, dermoid reactions caused by entrapment of sebum follicle or hair follicle can cause ovarian cysts as well. It is common for most women to have at least one cyst in their lifetime.

What are the symptoms of an ovarian cyst?
Sometimes, an ovarian cyst does not present many symptoms. The most common symptoms include:

  1. Increase in weight
  2. Painful intercourse
  3. Headache and fatigue
  4. Pain in the abdomen
  5. Heaviness and fullness in the stomach
  6. An increase in the frequency of urination
  7. Increase in bowel movements as a result of pressure
  8. Back pain

Ayurvedic treatment for ovarian cyst

  1. Shilajit: It is the most common herb for enhancing male libido and induces strength and vigour. Hence, this herb is indicated in women to increase agility so that they are able to get on with their daily schedule without much interference due to the fatigue.
  2. Commiphora mukul: It is a very potent drug and has immense rejuvenating properties. The cells of the body are revitalised and rejuvenated by these. It is also effective in people who are anaemic or have low haemoglobin levels in the blood.
  3. Emblica Officalis (Amlaki): ‘Amlaki’ is known for its rejuvenating properties as well. It has great anti oxidant properties and helps to neutralise the free radicals in the body. It is also effective in increasing immunity in the body and enhancing metabolism.

Male Menopause - How It Can Be Treated?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), L.C.P.S, PhD ,D.P.S.M

Male Menopause - How It Can Be Treated?

Male menopause also called ‘andropause’ is characterized by changes in the male hormone ‘testosterone’ due to age. Other names that are used to describe similar symptoms are ‘androgen deficiency’, ‘testosterone deficiency’ and ‘late-onset of hypogonadism’.

What Is Male Menopause?

Because men do not go through a well-defined period referred to as menopause, some doctors refer to this problem as androgen (testosterone) decline in the aging male -- or what some people call low testosterone. Men do experience a decline in the production of the male hormone testosterone with aging, but this also occurs with conditions such as diabetes. Testosterone is a hormone which is produced in the testes and it plays an important role in a man’s body; from regulating sex drive, increasing energy levels in the body, maintaining muscle mass to bringing about changes during puberty. Male menopause differs from female menopause in a few aspects and not all men are affected by it. However, this condition doesn’t cause impotence.

Symptoms:

Along with the decline in testosterone, some men experience symptoms that include:

  1. Fatigue
  2. Weakness
  3. Depression
  4. Sexual problems

The symptoms of male menopause are low energy levels, fatigue, depression and an inability to focus on anything. You will lose muscle tone coupled with an increase in body fat; the muscles in the body also tend to become weak. Some other symptoms are decreased bone density and breast development.

Causes:

There are no specific causes as such, but aging is known to play a major role in male menopause. Certain lifestyle factors such as depression, stress and anxiety can cause some symptoms of male menopause to show up such as erectile dysfunction. Not eating a balanced diet and not following a proper exercise regimen and drinking or smoking excessively can trigger symptoms of male menopause.

Treatment:

Once the diagnosis is done, the doctor will chart out a treatment course. The common treatment for male menopause is to make certain changes in your lifestyle – eating a well-balanced diet, getting optimal sleep and exercising regularly. Making these types of changes has been proven to dramatically improve the health of men affected by male menopause.

Another option is hormone replacement therapy, wherein synthetic or artificial testosterone is administered to the body. It is similar to performance e    nhancers in terms of its side effects. So it is advised to consult your doctor and take a well-founded decision on whether to go ahead with the hormone replacement therapy.

Ayurvedic Management of Male Menopause:

  1. Manage your emotions through yoga and meditation.
  2. Attend couple’s counselling and talk your doctor about your issues. Educate yourself and your family about the condition.
  3. Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
  4. Maintain your weight by doing regular exercise and diet.
  5. Do regular body oil massage with Ksheerabala taila, Sesame oil or Mahanarayana taila.
  6. You can undergo Ayurvedic treatments like Shirodhara, Rasayana and Vajikarana chikitsa to rejuvenate your body and enhance your sexual health.

Ayurvedic medicines like Ashwagandha, Kapikachhu, Shilajit, Gokshura, Musli, Amalaki, Punarnava, Chandraprabha vati, etc. are very beneficial.

Natural Remedies For Erectile Dysfunction!

Natural Remedies For Erectile Dysfunction!

Erectile dysfunction can severely limit life’s simple pleasures. It may also cause strife in one’s marital life and be a cause for social embarrassment and low self-esteem. Erectile dysfunction, which is commonly referred to as impotence, is either the inability to continue with an erection into climax for a continued period, or being able to maintain the erection for a very short time or not being able to get an erection at all.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction According to Ayurveda

Erectile dysfunction is usually caused due to a number of factors which include lifestyle habits, physical as well as psychological issues. Defects within the spinal cord, injuries or problems with blood flow may cause erectile dysfunction. An overly abusive childhood or sex associated with guilt may also be responsible. In Ayurveda, the disorder is linked to ‘shukra dhatu’. Any problem with this, may, thus result in multiple sexual problems including erectile dysfunction.

How can Ayurveda help cure ED?

According to Ayurveda, ED is basically a condition of low vitality. Generally, vitiation of vata dosha is responsible for Klaibya or ED. On the basis of the cause, seven types of Klaibya are mentioned in Ayurvedic texts, e.g. Manasik klaibya is caused by psychological factors, Doshaj klaibya is caused by physiological factors, Shukrakshayaj is caused by deficiency of Shukra dhatu, Vyadhi is cause by some other disease like diabetes, Aghataj is caused by surgical or accidental trauma, Shukranirodhaj is caused by suppression of sexual urge and Sahaj means congenital.

Ayurveda takes a more holistic approach. The exact combination of the methods and the exact implementation chosen may vary according to the specific causes.

  1. Vajikarana therapy – This is a holistic cleansing process that aims to correct the bodily faults which might have been causing ED. It includes certain processes, such as controlled regurgitation, to flush out toxins from the body, specially designed Ayurvedic massages, a tailor made diet, and various other herbal concoctions which can rejuvenate one’s vitality.
  2. Specified drugs to correct ED – Certain Ayurvedic herbs can be quite effective as well; both in the form of special Ayurvedic medicine or home remedies. Some of these herbs include:
  3. Bringing in lifestyle modifications – Drinking excessively, smoking and consuming junk food may all lead to weight gain as well as other imbalances within the body. These may affect pressure or sugar levels in your body as well as the heart’s condition, thus resulting in ED. Ayurveda requires one to cut down on or quit certain habits related to one’s lifestyle which might be causing ED.
  4. Yoga and meditation – Regular exercises would definitely help in this regard. Meditation and yoga would thus be an integral part of the treatment process. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Treatment and Management of Erectile Dysfunction

MBBS, MCCEE, Fellowship in Sexual Medicine
Sexologist, Jaipur
Treatment and Management of Erectile Dysfunction

How to manage it effectively?
There are enough options available which can keep every man sexually active regardless of the cause of erectile dysfunction (ed). Here's how therapy can take place.

Counselling sessions:
As with an electrical circuit, if there are any breaks in the system it will not function as a unit. Part of the process of psychosexual therapy would be to think about the actual emotional and/or psychological issues behind ed, and to attend to these with weekly counselling sessions. This realisation is an important first step for you to begin and resolve your erection problem. The patient normally implements the therapy advice at home, either alone or with a partner, between therapy sessions. This may help you maintain an erection for once, gradually building confidence.

Relieving sexual anxiety:
Telling your partner before you make love that you have this anxiety, and the feelings it causes. As a result, your partner will understand, and the two of you can work on it together.

You can reduce some worries by being more giving with foreplay, even if your sexual performance isn't what you or your partner wanted, your partner will still be satisfied.

Consider regular exercise which brings confidence in your body as your energy is also an important part of overcoming sexual anxiety.

Non-medical therapies
Watermelon juice (nature's viagra) and ginseng (herbal viagra): l-citrulline, an amino acid, present in watermelon can bring about significant improvement in blood flow to the penis, showing an improvement in erectile function. Another herb called ginseng, specifically 'red ginseng,' is known as the 'herbal viagra' that can improve sexual performance. Several research studies provide evidence for the effectiveness of these herbs in ed treatment.

Kegel exercises: pelvic exercises, involving the portion of the body between your waist and thighs, are commonly known as kegel exercises. Three months of kegel exercises twice daily can help to significantly improve your erection ability which strengthens the penile muscle. They also promote urinary control.

Acupuncture therapy: the acupuncture needles are placed in the wall of the abdomen. By stimulating specific acupoints, the practitioner aims to restore the proper flow of energy in the body resolving ed.

Eat right: scientific study at Massachusetts on male aging has found that eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, fish with fewer red and processed meat, whole and refined grains decreased the likelihood of having ed. Intake of a daily multivitamin and fortified foods is the best remedies for treating ed.

Walking: just 30 minutes of walking a day is linked to 41% drop in risk for ed. Moderate exercise can help restore sexual performance in obese middle-aged men with ed.

Attention towards vascular health and making body slim: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can all damage arteries in the penis along with heart and brain thereby leading to ed. Maintaining a trim waistline is a good defence for ed, as men with a 42-inch waist are 50% more likely to develop ed in comparison to 32-inch waist people.

Avoid excessive alcohol: chronic heavy drinking of alcohol can cause liver damage, nerve damage, and other conditions, interfering with the normal balance of male sex hormone (androgens) levels ultimately leading to ed.

Intake of l-arginine: l-arginine, an amino acid, which is naturally present in the body and helps make nitric oxide, supports a successful erection. Nitric oxide is responsible for making the blood vessels relax, which helps sustain an erection for men.

Medical therapy:
Ed can also be treated with oral medications, drugs insertions or injections into the penis. Oral medications that are normally prescribed to treat the dysfunction work for about 80% of men. They work by boosting the natural signals, which are generated dur

ing sexual activity so as to help you sustain an erection. Alprostadil is a type of medicine that causes blood vessels to expand, increasing blood flow to the penis, thus facilitate an erection. Cialis, Levitra, staxyn and viagra work by a similar mechanism to cause erections. There are subtle differences in how long the drug works and how quickly it works. A vacuum erection device is a plastic tube that slips over the penis, making a seal with the skin of the body. A pump at the other end of the tube creates a low-pressure vacuum around the erectile tissue, which results in an erection.

Ayurvedic medications:
Klaibya in Ayurveda is defined as the inability to attain and keep sufficient rigid (firm) erection which is very essential during sexual intercourse for the sexual needs or the needs of his female partner. Also vajikarana in Ayurveda means producing a horse's vigor. Some of the herbs used in vajikarana include:

  • Bulb of allium sativum (garlic)
  • Root of asparagus recemosus (shatavari)
  • Root of boerhavia diffusa (punarnava)
  • Whole part of Cocculus cardifoli (guduchi)
  • Root of panax ginseng (ginseng)
  • Seeds of myristica fragraus (nutmeg)
  • Leaf and root of withania somnifera (ashwagandha)
  • Leaf and seeds of ginkgo bioloba (ginkgo)
  • Pitch of asphaltum bitumen (shilajit)
  • Dried root of lepidium meyenii (maca)
