8 Easy Homemade Oats Recipes You Can Make In Under 20 Minutes

Healthy Oats make more than a warming breakfast! Be creative and make savory snacks, desserts and more with these simple quick-fix oat recipes. These are wholesome, delicious, easy to make and scrumptious in taste.

1. Oats Chilla

An absolute favorite breakfast for many, Oats Chilla is a very easy-to-cook recipe.

Ingredients:

How to make:

  • Crush the oats and mix them with semolina, curd/buttermilk, salt, onions & capsicums, mint & coriander leaves, crushed garlic cloves, spices in a bowl.
  • Add water to make a paste of thick consistency.
  • Keep aside this paste for nearly 15 minutes.
  • Heat a non-stick pan and put a few drops of oil/butter in it.
  • Spread the paste in circles.
  • Roast the chilla till it gets a nice golden hue to make it crisp and thereafter turn it to the other side.
  • Take the chilla off the pan once it is cooked and serve it with some tangy tomato ketchup or zesty mint chutney!
Tip: You can add any other veggies of your choice as per your health & taste preferences. It is better to use a slight sour curd or buttermilk to enhance the taste even more.

2. Oats Dosa

Those who love South Indian Food and absolutely cherish Dosa can give it a healthy touch by making Oats Dosa.

Ingredients:

  • Oat flour
  • Rice flour
  • Semolina
  • Chopped coconut
  • Green chilies
  • Herbs and spices
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Curd
  • Water

How to make:

  • Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl
  • Add water and curd gradually to form a thin paste.
  • Mix this batter well to avoid the formation of lumps.
  • Add some oil/butter in a well-heated pan and pour the batter.
  • The batter must not be too thick or thin to give the dosa a nice texture and perfectly round shape.
  • Cook the batter till it gets a golden brown hue.
  • Serve oats dosa with coconut chutney and sambar.
Tip: While pouring the paste in the pan, pour from the outside first to make the perfect South-Indian style dosa.

3. Oats Idli

The nutritious oats idli is very easy-to-prepare food option and a perfect blend of health and taste.

Ingredients:

  • Crushed oats
  • Salt
  • Curd
  • Oil
  • Curry leaves
  • Green chilies
  • Grated carrots
  • Chana dal

How to make:

  • Crush the oats and roast them in a pan till you see a powdered appearance.
  • Add grated carrots or any other seasonal veggies to it along with salt and curd.
  • In another pan, put some oil and mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, green chilies and cook it.
  • Add this mixture to already prepared idli batter.
  • Mix both the mixtures till you get a thick consistency.
  • Take the idli pan and grease it with oil before placing the idli batter in it.
  • Steam the idlis and relish it with coconut or tomato chutney.
Tip: Add a pinch of Baking Soda to your idli batter for fluffy idlis. You can also add some coriander leaves to your idlis to bring some nice hint of color and taste.

4. Oats Khichdi

Easy-to-make instant khichdi makes use of very less ingredients and ideal for weight watchers.

Ingredients:

  • Roasted oat flour
  • Cumin seeds
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Oil

How to make:

  • Heat some vegetable oil in a pressure cooker and put some cumin seeds.
  • Add chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste and other spices to it.
  • Cook for few more seconds before adding fresh seasonal veggies.
  • Saute the mixture and add oats, water and salt to taste.
  • Pressure cook the khichdi for about 10 minutes and thereafter open the lid to settle the pressure down.
  • Garnish it with coriander leaves and green chilies and accompany the dish with curd.
Tip: To make it more nutritious, you can add some boiled sweet corn too.

5. Oats Upma

Healthy and delicious oats Upma is quite filling and the healthiest breakfast meal to kickstart your day.

Ingredients:

  • Rolled oats
  • Chopped veggies (onions, carrots, capsicums)
  • Curry leaves
  • Urad dal
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Coconut
  • Lemon
  • Spices

How to make:

  • Put a teaspoon of oil in a pan and add oats, turmeric, salt, and green chilies.
  • Roast the oats for about 5 minutes till they turn golden brown.
  • Put some water, cover the pan and let the oats cook till they become soft.
  • In another pan, put some more oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and roast till the mixture turns a light brown.
  • Add curry leaves, salt, turmeric, onions and saute it before adding chopped veggies.
  • Add this mixture to the prepared oats and cook for the next one minute.
  • Garnish the dish with coconut, coriander leaves and squeeze some fresh lemon juice.
Tip: You can also add peanuts and dry fruits to add more taste to Upma.

6. Oat Smoothie

This delightful smoothie will keep you full for a longer duration and gives a healthy start to your day.

  • Add all the ingredients collectively in a blender and mix thoroughly.
  • Put any fruit of your preference in pieces.
  • Blend the mixture until it is nicely crushed.
  • Pour and serve the drink!
Tip: Add ice cubes to your smoothie to serve it chilled right out of the blender. Sprinkle some cocoa or coffee powder to garnish your drink.

7. Oat Biscuit

The tasty oat biscuits are made from very basic ingredients and a perfect snack for sudden hunger pangs.

Ingredients:

  • Oats
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • White sugar
  • baking soda
  • Salt
  • Baking flour
  • Vanilla extract

How to make:

  • In a bowl, mix together butter, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon powder, vanilla extract and eggs.
  • Beat the mixture slowly and then add baking flour, baking soda, salt and oats.
  • Once the mixture is properly whisked, keep them on a baking tray in the shape of a cookie.
  • Bake the biscuits in a pre-heated oven at 170 degrees C for approximately 10 minutes.
Tip: Add some nuts and choco chips to make oat biscuit recipe tastier.

8. Oats Maggi

Oats Maggi is a delicious and nutritious snack and takes only a few minutes to cook.

Ingredients:

  • Oats
  • Maggi masala powder
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Spices
  • Oil
  • Veggies

How to make:

  • Take some water in a clean pan and boil it before adding spices and Maggi masala powder.
  • Add oats to the mixture and let it boil till the consistency gets thickened.
  • In another pan, take a few drops of oil, heat and lightly saute vegetables in it.
  • Mix both the mixtures to make sure that everything is evenly distributed.
  • Top the dish with some grated cheese and for an awesome snack!
Tip: You can even add some eggs in the above recipe to increase its nutritional value.
