lybrate-user, First thing to be understood is diabetes mellitus is a disease that occurs due to either deficiency of Insulin or resistance to its action or both (particularly in T2 DM). So to treat diabetes one has to use drugs that stimulate insulin secretion from beta cells, as well as those that help in reducing resistance to insulin or some times Insulin injection itself. These drugs are available only in modern medicine. You may see many ads by ayurvedic practitioners and homeopathy clinics about controlling diabetes as well as curing it without using modern drugs, theses are all falls propaganda. If any of them had been able to cure diabetes he/she would have won Nobel prize. So only option for controlling diabetes is using proper modern drugs. In addition diet control and exercise are equally important. To suggest specific diet for a particular person following details are needed: Fasting, Pp glucose levels, HbA1c%, present diet pattern, extent of daily exercise being done and current drugs dosage. Without these details it is not possible to give a diet plan. However, one should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas), sweet corn syrup containing products, highly processed packaged foods. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits. Eat complex carbs, whole grain products. Total quantity of food intake should be based on ideal body weight. Thanks.
