Usually cholesterol medicine is lifelong if you have had a stroke or heart attack or pulmonary embolism. What is indication of starting your medicine will say whether you can stop it or not. But if you stop it by yourself do repeat lipid profile and cholesterol levels 2 weekly for 1 month. Then monthly for half a year and then half yearly. If all these reports are normal and you don't have any underlying disease. If after stopping medicine, your cholesterol start rising again. Contact doctor. Do contact me for further diagnosis and treatment if you feel necessary.
