My husband is a diabetic for the last 7- 8 years. With good control. Hba1c levels near 6. In april this year he got corona infection and had to be hospitalized with moderate infection. Was given 5 remidesvir and steroids. In may his pp levels were around 220 and fasting 111 with hba1c 6.1. Our doctor said to wait another month or so .with strict diet his pp and fasting fluctuate. More than normal. But on 5 th july now hba1c levels are 5.8. Do I need to worry. Since the very beginning he takes glycomet 500 twice a day.

It is normal for blood sugars to fluctuate after covid. Ideally repeat fasting and pp sugars every few days, if pp is still high the medicines may need to be changed temporarily

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. Usually with steroids intake, blood glucose does go up and control on diabetes is lost. It is good to know that he has been able to get back the strict control with whatever present treatment that he is taking plus diet and exercise. If HbA1c% < 6% that is excellent. There is absolutely no reason to worry. If you have any specific questions please do come back. Thanks.

You don't need to worry. Blood sugar is under good control. It is usual to have increased sugar after steroid therapy. But it will dip after stopping the steroids.
