Sir, my father is 81 years old and is healthy and active. He exercises regularly. Height: 5 ft 5 inch weight: 57 kg for hypertension he take amlodipine 2.5 mg tablet once daily in the morning. In the evening the blood pressure has been found to be around 150/80 for the last 3 days. Is 150/80 normal for 80 years old? Or is it high? He insists that it is normal for 80 years old while I say he needs to visit a doctor for refixing his dosage. With warm regards and thanking you in advance. Mridul das.

As your father is 81 years his target systolic bp is between 130-139mmhg. So 150mmhg systolic bp is definitely high even at his age. But sometimes excessive salt in diet can cause increase in blood pressure. So try to give him salt restricted diet .if his systolic bp doesn't fall below 140mmhg with diet restrictions alone, then increase the dose of amlodipine to 5 mg once daily. Hope this will work for him. Wishing your father a healthy life ahead.
