Dear mr. Lybrate-user, What you have heard is bariatric surgery, and it's only advisable for those who have very high weight and with comorbidities. For them they only go in remission after surgery, means they won't need medicines after surgery. But if they stop diet and exercise (for life long) and gain weight again, diabetes will rise again. You can consult privately if you need more info or want your eligibility for this surgery.
