Diabetes happens because your body is not able to utilise sugar properly. The reason could be a deficiency of Insulin or a resistance of body tissues to the action of Insulin. Usually, both exist in varying degrees. Diabetes does NOT directly happen because of eating sugar or fat. Eating several smaller meals a day is definitely better than 2-3 very large ones. And that alone doesn't cause diabetes.
