Sir, I am 38Y Male. 90 KGs. Fasting 100, PP 156. BP remains normal at 130/80. Walk 100 min per week. Father Diabetic. HbA1C 6.0. Would I require medication or I can help myself by mere lifestyle changes? I have stopped rice and very less sugar intake now. I have discomfort in knee in the form of little pain (May be due to Vit D Deficiency). Any tests you recommend? Thank you for your guidance.

Mr. lybrate-user, If your father is having diabetes then there is every possibility of you getting it. One of the main reason is you are having grade 1 obesity with a BMI od 30.3 kgs/M2. Your ideal body weight should be 72 kgs. At present you are in a pre-diabetes state. At this stage one can prevent the condition progressing to diabetes by adapting a modified lifestyle. First requirement is weight reduction, because excess fat in the body opposes insulin action. Second is daily exercise of at least 1 hour. (not 100 minutes/week). Plus cut down on sweets, deep fried foods, aerated drinks, high fat milk products, junk foods, pastries and bakery items. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Thanks.
