I am a 23 y/o, 183 cm 83 kg male at approx. 21% body fat. I have been recently diagnosed with type-2 diabetes (rbs: 428 when first tested). I am also rapidly balding. Right now, I have about 20% of the hair density of what I used to have when I was 19 (when balding started). Family history: dad's side type-2 diabetes and baldness on dad's side. My dad is bald, was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes at 43. Three of his five siblings have type-2 diabetes. All my uncles (dad's siblings and cousins) are bald. But no one has had an early onset of either. Mom's side obesity and type-2 diabetes. My mom is overweight but no diabetes. My grandfather was obese and had type-2 diabetes, lost weight after diagnosis and died of a heart attack at 62. My uncle (mom's sibling), is overweight and has type-2 diabetes along with cholesterol problems and hypertension. Additional details: I am a graduate student (doing Ms. in cybersecurity) living in the us. Sedentary lifestyle, started exercising after diabetes diagnosis. An hour of cardio (135-140 bpm, average) a day and moderate weight training. Changed my diet accordingly. No processed foods, no refined carbs, lots of fruit, vegetables and some dairy. I also have carpal tunnel syndrome, (surgery recommended by multiple doctors)(i have had my thyroid checked multiple times, always normal) and sleeping problems (can not fall asleep, can not stay asleep, can not go back to sleep after waking up). Absolutely no smoking or drinking (not even socially/casually). My question: I understand that I have a genetic predisposition to diabetes and baldness but why is the onset so early and why is the progression so rapid?
