I have been taking following medicines for the last 20 years lithium 400 mg sr 2 times, quetiapine 200 mg one time, serlift 100 mg 2 times, alprax 0.75 once. People are saying long run medication not good (they are not saying very specific) my kidney functions are okay and my lithium level within a range. I want to reduce the dosage with the permission of my phastric doctor. But one side fear of reducing the medicines. Can anyone suggest and advise me.

Dear lybrate-user, people may say as a routine advice - long run medication not good. But you should only decide with your psychiatry doctor's advice whether medication is good or the disorder is good for your life. Yes, lithium in the long run may harm kidneys. That is why you are getting your kidney functions done every year. You are also not taking lithium beyond the range. Please make a quality of life chart before lithium and after lithium. Lithium dose can not be reduced since serum lithium level should be within range. Other tablets can be reduced after discussing with your psychiatrist.

The medications you are taking are fine provided you attend regular review with your psychiatrist and do regular blood and other tests for the same. Good luck.
