Hi I am already taking gemer 2 tablets and doctor asked to take istamet 50/500 as well. When I read its purpose, both are for diabetes. Is it really required to take both tablets if their purpose is same? Please advise.

Actually not really you should take it both.

I think your blood sugar is not controlled with Gemer2 only that is why your doctor has added Istamet which has different mechanism of action. There are many drugs for diabetes control and they have different ways to act.If one medicine is not able to control blood sugar effectively then another is added and if blood sugar is still not controlled then another and so on.if all a ailable oral medicines are ineffective then Insulin is considered for type 2 diabetes, which is also used in emergency situations.

Purpose of these are to low blood sugar but mechanism is different. When blood sugar doesn't get control by one type of medication, we go to second step. So you should take both medication if advised by your doctor check your blood sugars levels fasting and post meal.

Oh no both have separate rationale gemer 2 contains glimipiride 2 mg while istamet contains sitagliptin metformin. Your doctor is rightly advising you. For more contact me on line.
