Hba2 (hemoglobin subunit alpha 2) is a protein-coding gene. Diseases associated with hba2 include hemoglobin h disease and alpha-thalassemia. Hba2, composing of two ? chains and two ? chains, is a minor component of the hemoglobin present in normal adult red blood cells, accounting for about 2.5% of the total hemoglobin in healthy individuals. However, the hba2 level is also elevated in some pregnant women.
