Hi, I am diabetic since 15 years. Taking glycomet gp 2, zitamet plus and huminsulin inj. 2 years back got thyroid cancer and now is in control. I have got severe joint pains in my fingers and not able to fold my hands often.

Hi lybrate-user, There are two things I suspect could be cause of your severe joint pain. One is rheumatological and another is neurological. Although I think the former is more likely that later. It could be Rheumatological problem (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis etc) because both your hand joints are affected and you are also experiencing stiffness of these joints. It could be Neurological problem (such as peripheral neuropathy) considering your long standing diabetes and thyroid cancer (if you have received chemo/radiation as a form of treatment), however the neurological pain is always burning rather than stabbing. Hence, I would recommend seeing a rheumatologist or a general medicine physician (preferably former) first to find out the cause and appropriate treatment for the same.
