How does one know one has "chronic malaria" My friend who lives in the US got Malaria 9 years ago, when she was in Ghana. She was there only for a year, and got a Malarial relapse too while there. She was given some medicines. Nine years later she feels since that time she has been borderline anaemic, a problem she never had until 2009. She is in her early thirties. Recently she did a course of iron pills, and even after 3 months of iron, she found she was borderline anaemic. She has some thyroid issues too. She feels fatigue as well, and tired. She wonders if it is because she has something called "chronic malaria" She was wondering if she should take some medicines to eliminate any "remnant" parasites in her liver. She wonders if she has an enlarged spleen. The symptoms of "Chronic Malaria" tend to be different from that of Malarial Relapse. Either way, her question is, would this show up on the blood test. If not, what Malarial medicine should she take to eliminate any such parasites from her system, in case they are affecting her health.
