Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Diabetes mellitus is a disease occurring due to deficiency of Insulin a hormone secreted by Beta cells in the pancreas. There are many different types of diabetes, but mainly tow are imortant for routine cases Type 1: in this there is no insulin secretion, person needs insulin injections for glucose control and survival. T2: In this there is either lack of Insulin or there is resistance to its action or both are present. This is the commonest form of diabetes. Most patients have this condition. To diagnose diabetes following criteria are used: Fasting glucose 126 mg or more, PP 200 mg or more & HbA1c% 6.5 and more. When diabetes is well controlled fasting glucose should be < 100 mg, PP should be between 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Anyone having higher levels of glucose is at a risk of developing serious long term complications associated with almost every vital organ system of the body. Therefore, it is wrong to say people having 450 mg and 500 mg blood glucose do not take medicines. I hope your doubts are cleared. If you still have any question please come back. Please understand it is absolutely necessary to follow all dietary instructions and do regular exercise and control weight to remain fit and healthy. Looking at your height and weight with a BMI of 44.35 you are morbidly obese. This is the main reason for uncontrolled diabetes. Your ideal weight should be 57 kgs. Thanks..
