Home Remedies For Nausea: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Most people have experienced nausea, at one point or the other in their life. Nausea is a common symptom that causes you to feel uneasy, queasy and sick. It is usually accompanied with vomiting. Nausea can be the result of morning sickness, dehydration, acidity, food poisoning, flu, stress and motion sickness. It is important to discover and treat the underlying cause of nausea as well as the symptom. Generally, nausea tends to resolve itself within a day or two. Unless it persists, you can treat nausea at home with the help of a few remedies and rest.

Here are some effectual home remedies for treating nausea:

  • Inhale the scents of peppermint and lemon: If you are feeling nauseous, slice a fresh lime and inhale its fragrance. The fresh citrus smell of the lime will cut through nausea, settle your stomach and soothe you. The scent of peppermint has a similar capacity to soothe the stomach. You can drink a cup of tea made from peppermint leaves or rub peppermint oil on your gums.
  • Ginger is one of the most effective home remedies for nausea, whether it is in the form of tea, juice or just raw ginger. To make a ginger tea, boil two cups of water, for three minutes. Peel and slice a piece of raw ginger, adding it to the boiled water. Keep it to rest for five minutes. Strain the tea and add a teaspoon of honey to it. Drink it twice in a day. It will provide relief from nausea.
  • Sometimes neck or back pain could cause you to feel nauseous. An effective remedy to counter this nausea is stretching exercises. For a neck exercise, start by tilting your head forward until your chin is almost touching your chest and hold this position for ten seconds. Then gently tilt your head to the right side, until your ear is in line with your shoulder. Do the same for the left side and hold for ten seconds. Repeat this whole exercise, slowly around thrice a day.

Are there any side effects?

Usually, there are not many side effects involved in home remedies for nausea. However, it is advisable to consume ginger only in moderation. In some cases, consuming ginger in excess can lead to side effects such as stomach upset, heartburn and if you have an allergy, an allergic reaction to ginger. It is advisable for those with bleeding disorders and pregnant women to avoid consuming too much ginger. Since ginger functions as a blood thinning agent, it can cause excessive bleeding. While following the stretching neck exercises, it is important to exercise caution. If the instructions are not followed properly, it can cause you to strain a neck or shoulder muscle as well as dizziness.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

It is important to follow a few guidelines along with the home remedy treatment for nausea.

  • Start by drinking plenty of water and liquids. It is important to stay hydrated, you can drink fruit juices, sugar-water and flat soft drinks.
  • Make sure that you are well rested. Lying down without a pillow will help ease nausea. You can apply an ice pack or a cool washcloth on your forehead as well until nausea subsides.
  • When you can start eating solids, make sure that you eat healthy food. Start with bland food such as toast dipped in milk, biscuits and fruits. A healthy diet can even help you to prevent whatever is causing nausea in the future.

How long does it take to recover?

The recovery time from the symptom of nausea depends on the condition that caused it. If you experience mild nausea due to indigestion, acidity or dehydration, with home remedies and post treatment guidelines, recovery takes one or two days. However, nausea due to morning sickness, stress or chemotherapy can recur and persist. You should seek immediate medical expertise if the nausea is severe and lasts for more than two days.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

These home remedies are effective in treating nausea. However, if nausea is the symptom of an underlying condition, it can recur at any time. Hence, the treatment for nausea might not be permanent.

Home Remedies That Can Treat Hangover!

A night out with its fair share of drinks is enjoyable, but it is the morning after which tends to have the after affects. Hangovers are a problem with anybody who has had a drink too much the night before and it might leave you in an incapacitated state due to nausea, headaches and dehydration.

Here are some of the known homemade remedies which can cure hangovers:

  1. Make sure you take a lot of water and fluids: After you have woken up after a night out where you had lots to drink, you are bound to have a hangover as alcohol is known to dehydrate the body. Thus it is advisable that you drink plenty of water and other fluids. Only water isn’t going to be enough as water can hydrate you but many of the other nutrients will only be supplied by juices, rehydrating drinks, sports drinks or other such. Thus it is important to consume a variety of these fluids.
  2. Eat a hearty breakfast: The longer you are with an empty stomach, the longer it is going to take the hangover to go away. Eating a hearty and filling breakfast will relieve the hangover to a great extent. However, eat foods which are easy to digest, such as cereals and toast. Avoid greasy and oily foods in the morning as they may add to the nausea. Including dates and raisins help.
  3. If you have nowhere important to be, go back to bed: If you have the time and nothing to do, then it is advisable to sleep a little longer while you keep rehydrating yourself whenever you wake up. This is going to give your body the fluids it needs while resting is going to give it plenty of opportunity to heal itself.
  4. Eat ginger, both before and after drinking: Ginger has been used as a home remedy across cultures for centuries to treat nausea. It is thus wise to eat crystallized or candied forms of ginger, both before and after consumption of alcohol as it will lessen its effects on the body. You can take ginger the night after as well to reduce the nausea that comes with hangover.
  5. Stretch out and exercise a little: Between naps it may not be a bad idea to stretch out and exercise a little, which will help you release endorphins to make you feel better. However, ensure that it is light exercise so that the nausea and headaches are not exacerbated. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Home Remedies For Ehrtichiosis

Home Remedies For Ehrtichiosis

Some of the home remedies for ehrlichiosis include the use of ginger, licorice, and other anti-bacterial products and foods. However, studies consistently argue that medical attention is by far the best solution for curing ehrlichiosis, so be sure to contact a medical professional if you think you are suffering from ehrlichiosis. From there, the home remedies can be used in conjunction with formal treatment, if advised.

Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial infection that is transmitted by the bite of a tick. This condition primarily affects dogs, because they are frequently in wooded areas and brush against reeds and plants where ticks commonly live. However, it can also be transmitted to humans. The intracellular bacteria that infects the body attack white blood cells, which significantly weakens the immune system. If you find a tick on your body, it is best to carefully remove it with tweezers, trying not to squash it, since the bacteria in its body can get onto your skin. Also, make sure that the mouth parts are removed from your skin as well.

Symptoms of ehrlichiosis

The symptoms of ehrlichiosis include fatigue, nausea, muscle aches, high fever, and severe joint and muscle pain. This is common for autoimmune diseases that destroy your white blood cells, because your body tries to show you that it is ill in as many ways as possible at the same time. The immune disruption is the direct cause behind the majority of the symptoms.

The symptoms usually appear 1-2 weeks after the initial bite occurs, which is why it can be difficult to identify, because the tick might have dropped off or died by the time you start seeing symptoms. A rash can sometimes appear faster than other symptoms, but every case seems to be different.

If you are diagnosed with ehrlichiosis, then the best course of action is to consult a medical professional and begin treatment with doxycycline and minocycline, which are used in the vast majority of cases. For people allergic to that class of drugs, there are other pharmaceutical options that can quickly clear up the symptoms. Certain cases are chronic, and this presents a long-term problem for those sufferers, since their immune system being compromised can be ideal for opportunistic infections, like candidiasis. Herbal and natural remedies should be used in conjunction with allopathic remedies, not in place of them.

Home remedies of ehrlichiosis

Ginger and licorice: These two foods have been peripherally connected with ehrlichiosis because they can help to boost the immune system and increase the count of white blood cells in your body. While this is not a cure for the bacterial infection, it can certainly make the symptoms less serious. When taken in conjunction with doxycycline, this can speed up the healing process and get you back on your feet quicker. Licorice and ginger tea is probably the easiest method of adding these to your diet, but there are other dietary applications of those foods, as well.

Tick awareness: Since doxycycline is the primary remedy for this condition, there isn’t much more to say about treatment. However, prevention is also very important. If a tick is found and removed within 36 hours, then there is a drastically diminished chance of contracting ehrlichiosis. After leaving a “tick area”, be sure to thoroughly check your clothes and skin. Also, do a second check at the end of the day, in case the ticks were transferred in your hair or some other object you had with you. If you find a tick, gently squeeze the mouth parts of the tick with tweezers and gently pull it off you skin, being careful not to jerk or tear the mouth parts out. From there, you can either kill the tick in an alcohol solution or save it for a doctor in case you begin to develop symptoms from the bite.

A final word of warning: While this condition is usually not life-threatening, if left untreated, the infection can become quite serious and can then develop into a chronic case of ehrlichiosis, which can be very difficult to eliminate. Therefore, be aware and vigilant of your personal space and how your body feels, particularly after spending time in wooded or “tick-friendly” areas. Many people try to avoid allopathic remedies in lieu of an herbal remedy, but when it comes to a specific bacterial infection like this, taking doxycycline is the fastest, easiest, and safest solution.

Dehydration and Its Home Remedies

Dehydration and Its Home Remedies

Dehydration, in simple words, is shortage of water in the body. Every cell in the body needs water in order to function properly. In fact, an adult's body weight is 60% water, while an infant's is up to 80% water. Other than oxygen, there is nothing that the body needs more than water.

Water - the irreplaceable

Water is so important because it has many critical functions in the body. Among other activities, water:

* lubricates the joints and connective tissues

* helps digest the food

* liquifies the mucus when you have got a cold

* eliminates bodily heat through sweat

* carries oxygen, carbohydrates and fats to working muscles

* flushes waste from the body through urine

* boosts endurance during prolonged exercise

* wards off bladder infections by washing out harmful bacteria

* helps curb your appetite

* plumps up wrinkles

* quenches thirst

Types of dehydration;

Mild, moderate and severe are the three types of dehydration. In mild dehydration, body loses 5% of its fluid. Once the loss of body fluid reaches 10%, it is moderate dehydration where medical attention is required. Once the loss of body fluid reaches 15%, it is severe dehydration where the affected person should be hospitalized immediately for intravenous replacement of fluids. In summer one could have lot of sweating which is very normal as the body balances its temperature. The only precaution that could prevent any type of dehydration is to replace lost fluid by drinking plenty of water regularly. Make it a point to take a minimum of 3 litres of water daily.

Causative factors;

Dehydration can happen due to:

* insufficient liquid/water intake

* excessive loss of fluids due to diarrhea, vomiting and sunstroke

Signs and symptoms:

* furious thirst

* dizziness or nausea

* extreme exhaustion

* loss of elasticity of skin and wrinkling

* reduced urination

* easily irritable

* headache

* dry tongue

* weakness

Treatment - home remedies

In mild cases of dehydration, the treatment is following the simple thumb rule of replacing the lost fluid. Non-alcoholic drinks may be given in plenty. Coconut water is the best. The oral dehydration solutions and sachets are available, which are easy to use. The following are some of the home remedies:

* drink plenty of water by adding sugar or salt to it.

* take yogurt, buttermilk, mint, apple, pomegranate, papaya, banana, carrot, potato, etc.

* add a few drops of pudinhara to half a cup of water and drink 3 - 4 times.

* drink a mixture of 1 tsf mint juice, 1/2 tsf ginger juie and 1 tsf honey.

* drink 1/2 tsf of dry ginger powder in 1 cup of buttermilk, 3 - 4 times a day.

* chew a few pieces of inner lining of pomegranate with salt and/or drink pomegranate juice.

* prepare a mixture by adding 1/2 tsf lemon juice, 1/2 tsf ginger juice and 1/4 tsf pepper powder and drink it.

* roast 1/2 tsf cumin (jeera) seeds and 1/2 tsf fenugreek seeds; mix and powder it, add to 4 tsf of yogurt, take it thrice a day.

* grate one raw papaya. Add 3 cups of water, boil for 10 mins, strain and finish the water in one day.

* stew apple with 2 pinches of nutmeg powder and 1 tsf sugar and eat it.

* eat plenty of fresh fruits.

* eat one green banana every two to four hours until symptoms subside.

* food rich in potassium are important to restore the body's essential stores depleted during diarrhea. Such foods include lentils, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, coconut milk and citrus fruits.

* avoid alcohol and caffeine, apticots, peas, pears, peaches, plums, prunes, etc. During dehydration.

Homeopathy Constitutional Remedies
Know how Homeopathy constitutional remedies can cure Chronic cases

Hi, I m Dr. Monty Talwar, practicing in Gurgaon, I have an experience of about 20 years in homeopathy, I practice classical homeopathy wherein we take into account the patient s nature and temperament especially in chronic cases. The constitutional cases are very deep-acting and they will stimulate the immune system of the patient. Thereby, the patient s body fights on its own, so we are not providing a continuous stimulus or a medicine from outside as the body takes charge of itself.

The example in thyroid cases, especially in hypothyroidism when we give the constitutional medicine it stimulates the thyroid gland so that it starts secreting the hormone on its own. As a result, the patient can be off the thyroid medicine. Similarly, in frequent colds and coughs in children where they fall sick too often, so these medicines build up the immunity of the child, so that they do not fall sick that often. Because of this individualistic approach, homeopathy is considered to be a holistic science.

If you have any queries or require a consultation with me you can consult me on Lybrate. Thank You.
