Hi, Causes of constipation are sedentary lifestyle, low fiber diet, less intake of water, old age, etc. Include lot of fiber in your diet like raw vegetables, greens, sprouts, fruits, oats, etc. Avoid wheat, ragi, and jowar as they are not easily digestible food. Walk daily for one hour either in the morning or in the evening. Intake of fruits like big banana, orange, musambi, papaya, etc are good in constipation. Take 1-2 tabs of Triphala with a glass of hot water at bedtime everyday.

I am looking for Anger Management. I am a very short tempered person which is effecting my marriage.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Try to follow the below tips for anger, if it does not work consult a psychiatrist, All the best. 1. Think before you speak In the heat of the moment, it's easy to say something you'll later regret. Take a few moments to collect your thoughts before saying anything ? and allow others involved in the situation to do the same. 2. Once you're calm, express your anger As soon as you're thinking clearly, express your frustration in an assertive but nonconfrontational way. State your concerns and needs clearly and directly, without hurting others or trying to control them. 3. Get some exercise Physical activity can help reduce stress that can cause you to become angry. If you feel your anger escalating, go for a brisk walk or run, or spend some time doing other enjoyable physical activities. 4. Take a timeout Timeouts aren't just for kids. Give yourself short breaks during times of the day that tend to be stressful. A few moments of quiet time might help you feel better prepared to handle what's ahead without getting irritated or angry. 5. Identify possible solutions Instead of focusing on what made you mad, work on resolving the issue at hand. Does your child's messy room drive you crazy? Close the door. Is your partner late for dinner every night? Schedule meals later in the evening ? or agree to eat on your own a few times a week. Remind yourself that anger won't fix anything and might only make it worse. 6. Stick with 'I' statements To avoid criticizing or placing blame ? which might only increase tension ? use "I" statements to describe the problem. Be respectful and specific. For example, say, "I'm upset that you left the table without offering to help with the dishes, instead of, "You never do any housework. 7. Don't hold a grudge Forgiveness is a powerful tool. If you allow anger and other negative feelings to crowd out positive feelings, you might find yourself swallowed up by your own bitterness or sense of injustice. But if you can forgive someone who angered you, you might both learn from the situation. It's unrealistic to expect everyone to behave exactly as you want at all times. 8. Use humor to release tension Lightening up can help diffuse tension. Use humor to help you face what's making you angry and, possibly, any unrealistic expectations you have for how things should go. Avoid sarcasm, though ? it can hurt feelings and make things worse. 9. Practice relaxation skills When your temper flares, put relaxation skills to work. Practice deep-breathing exercises, imagine a relaxing scene, or repeat a calming word or phrase, such as, "Take it easy. You might also listen to music, write in a journal or do a few yoga poses ? whatever it takes to encourage relaxation. 10. Know when to seek help Learning to control anger is a challenge for everyone at times. Consider seeking help for anger issues if your anger seems out of control, causes you to do things you regret or hurts those around you.

Hi, i have depression & anxiety stress, bodyache, laziness and migraine. Please advise me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Sounds to me like you are into an anger related depression (due to the migraines). All the other symptoms go with depression. If you have not been on medication and you want to remain so, you will have to work very hard to recover from this condition. You must first of all seek the help of a counselor, ideally. If that person thinks that you need to meet with a doctor you will need to do so and cooperate right through. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don?t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back, if you are not already married. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Why Do These Common Issues Cause Premature Ejaculation?

Why Do These Common Issues Cause Premature Ejaculation?

People suffering from Premature Ejaculation have a problem controlling the timing of ejaculation while engaging in sexual congress. Men with this sexual problem usually look for doctors or clinics which treat Premature Ejaculation instead of trying to understand the physical and psychological factors behind it. Understanding these underlying factors can greatly help in the diagnosis of this serious issue. The safe treatment for this sexual dysfunction involves addressing the root cause of this condition.

Common risk factors

  • Worry about sexual performance: Many men experience "performance anxiety" while having sex. They feel that they are not experienced or skillful enough to help their partners have an enjoyable experience. This constant worry can severely affect sexual performance.
  • Previous instances of unwanted ejaculation: Men who had disappointing sexual experiences in the past can become obsessed with their shortcomings. These unpleasant memories can interfere with the psychological mechanism of arousal and ejaculation.
  • Previous relationships: If the person did not have fulfilling relationships in the past, the chances of suffering from this issue can increase. Men who had abusive spouses or had become involved in complicated divorce proceedings are likely to have performance issues while dealing with their current partner.
  • Testosterone imbalance: Testosterone is an important hormone when it comes to developing and maintaining an erection. The testosterone level is at its peak in young adults and then gradually decreases with age, leading to difficulties in sexual performance.
  • Thyroid malfunction: Research has shown that Hyperthyroidism is rampant among men suffering from Premature Ejaculation. A hyperactive thyroid reduces testosterone production, thus impairing erectile stamina and sexual pleasure.
  • Nerve damage: The penile region is a delicate structure with countless nerve endings. Any damage to the nerve tissue due to an injury can severely affect sexual performance.
  • Prostate inflammation: Irritation in the prostate has been shown to have an impact on duration of erection in some men. The symptoms associated with prostate inflammation (such as pain in the groin, difficulty in urination, post-ejaculatory pain, etc.) can degrade the overall sexual experience.

Solution to Premature Ejaculation

While Premature Ejaculation is indeed a serious problem, it responds well to correct treatment and can be resolved in due time. Doctors and specialists of Premature Ejaculation are increasingly relying on natural treatment like Ayurveda and Unani in order to naturally cure this sexual dysfunction. These ancient treatment systems when applied with Yoga therapy can greatly improve sexual performance and help both partners achieve sexual contentment.

Compulsive Sexual Behaviour - Why You Must Get Treated For It?

One of the emerging psychiatric disorder that has significant medical and psychiatric consequences is compulsive sexual behaviour or hypersexuality, is an obsession with sexual thoughts in which people cannot manage their sexual behaviour. It may involve a commonly enjoyable sexual experience as self-stimulation which becomes an obsession. The person suffering from the condition may also get involved in sexual behaviours that are outside the bounds of commonly accepted conduct like paying for sex or having extramarital affairs.

Untreated compulsive sexual behaviour damages one’s self-esteem, health, job, relationships and career. However, with treatment and self-help, one can manage compulsive sexual behaviour and learn to manage one’s urge. Males are more likely to be unfaithful than females because they have stronger sexual impulses and weaker self-controlCompulsive sexual behaviour symptoms vary in type and severity. During intense sexual impulses, one feels as if they're beyond control. This is the first and the most common symptom as the patient uses compulsive sexual behaviour as an escape route for problems like loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. One has trouble establishing and maintaining emotional closeness, even if one is married or in a committed relationship.

The treatment for compulsive sexual behaviour involves psychotherapy and medications. A primary goal of treatment is to help one manage urges and reduce excessive behaviours while maintaining healthy sexual activities. If one has compulsive sexual behaviour, one may need treatment for mental health condition. People with compulsive sexual behaviour often have alcohol or drug abuse problems or a mood disorder such as depression.

Counselling sessions can help one learn how to manage one’s compulsive sexual behaviour. Intensive treatment programs for compulsive sexual behaviours focus on identification of core triggers and beliefs about sexual addiction. It assists in development of healthier choices and coping skills to minimize urges and deal with the preoccupation of sexual addiction. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can prove to be very useful as it focuses on increasing one’s awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviours, and developing new insights into their motivations. Resolving conflicts using this therapy is also recommended. The other kind of treatment program is cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps one to identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Family therapy and couples therapy may restore trust, minimize shame and guilt thus establishing a healthy sexual relationship between partners.

Medications include anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers and anti-androgens have also been used to treat compulsive sexual behaviour. Anti-androgens are prescribed as it reduces the biological effects of sex hormones in men thus reducing sexual urges. Luteinizing hormone is also prescribed as it reduces obsessive sexual thoughts by reducing the production of testosterone. Anti-seizure medications, naltrexone, and medications which decrease male hormones have been found to decrease the compulsive urges and impulses associated with sexual addictions for some sufferers.

Ovarian Cysts - 9 Symptoms About It!

Ovarian Cysts - 9 Symptoms About It!

Ovarian cysts are common and most women will have at least one during their life. In most cases they do not display any symptoms and are discovered only during routine physical exams and ultrasounds. In most cases, it is nothing to worry about but in rare cases it can lead to complications and hence it is best to get an ovarian cysts checked out by a doctor.

Ovarian cysts usually affect women in their child bearing years. They can be described as fluid-filled sacs that develop in either of the ovaries. In an ultrasound image, these can look like small bubbles. Problems usually arise when these cysts grow larger or rupture.

In such cases, you may experience symptoms that include:

  1. Pain in the lower abdomen
  2. Painful intercourse
  3. Irregular menstruation
  4. Painful urination and bowel movement
  5. Pelvic pain after exercising
  6. Nausea and vomiting
  7. Bloating
  8. Spotting between periods
  9. Heartburn and indigestion

If the doctor suspects ovarian cysts, an ultrasound is usually used to confirm the diagnosis. A pelvic ultrasound or a sonograph as it is also known is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the body’s internal structure. In some cases, an endovaginal ultrasound may also be required. This involves inserting a covered wand or probe into the vagina through which a clearer image of the ovaries can be seen.

If the cyst does not trigger any of the above symptoms, it usually does not require treatment. Instead a pelvic ultrasound may be scheduled after a month to check on the size of the cyst. In most cases, these cysts resolve themselves within a month or two. In the case of larger cysts, a biopsy may be required to rule out the chances of the cysts being cancerous. Birth control pills may be prescribed to address the pain associated with this condition. These pills are also used to stop ovulation and reduce the risk of developing further cysts.

Surgery is considered only if the cyst grows in size or continues to pain. In such cases, surgery can be of two kinds: laparoscopy or laparotomy. Laparoscopy involves the removal of cysts through a telescope like an instrument that is inserted through a small incision made in the abdomen. This is usually used to remove small cysts. Larger cysts and ovarian tumours are treated with a laparotomy. This involves making a bigger incision in the stomach and may also involve the removal of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus depending on the tumour.

Fibromyalgia - Ayurvedic Ways That Can Help Resolve It!

Fibromyalgia is a medical condition that is known to affect the soft tissues and muscles of the body. As a result, there is a muscular pain and fatigue experienced throughout the body, often interfering with daily activities of the affected individual. Though the condition can affect both men and women, females are more prone to Fibromyalgia than their male counterparts.

The pain (can be acute or chronic) associated with fibromyalgia is often an outcome of a condition whereby the receptors in the brain that perceive the pain signal undergoes modification, becoming oversensitive to the pain stimuli.

The body has 18 tender points spread throughout the body. These tender points are highly sensitive and can be quite painful when pressed. Research suggests that individuals with fibromyalgia experience pain in at least 11 of these pressure points when pressed (often used in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia).

Causes of Fibromyalgia
While it may be difficult to decipher the exact trigger that results in Fibromyalgia, the condition may be an outcome of

  1. Physical or emotional trauma, stress, anxiety, and depression
  2. Genetic predisposition. The incidence of fibromyalgia is higher in individuals with a family history of the condition
  3. Indulging in too much of a sedentary lifestyle (lack of physical activities and exercise) can play a pivotal role in triggering fibromyalgia
  4. Certain health conditions and infections such as Arthritis can also give to fibromyalgia

Symptoms
While muscular and joint weakness and pain are synonymous to fibromyalgia, a person may also complain of

  1. Sleeping disorders
  2. There is a weakness, headache (often associated with a migraine), and fatigue (in spite of having a sound sleep and proper rest)
  3. A person may experience Fibro Fog (a condition resulting from fibromyalgia whereby a person finds it difficult to memorize or concentrate on anything)
  4. There may be morning stiffness along with numbness or a tingling sensation in the legs, hands, feet
  5. Some women with fibromyalgia may experience menstrual cramps which are often painful
  6. One may also suffer from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Temporomandibular joint disorders

Treating Fibromyalgia with Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, Fibromyalgia is an outcome of the vitiation of all the three doshas - Vata, Kapha, Pitta. This affects the digestion process (it weakens or slows down) with the buildup of toxins or Ama in the body. Thus, for an effective treatment, the balance between the three doshas should be restored along with the elimination of the toxins out of the body (detoxification).

  1. The treatment often involves a concoction of herbal and Ayurvedic oil massages and oil baths, lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, meditation and yogas or pranayamas
  2. Avoid non-vegetarian (can have lean meat though), spicy and greasy foods. Instead, supplement the diet with fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy or good fats (poly or monounsaturated fats), whole grains
  3. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water daily
  4. Follow a healthy sleep routine. Mediation and Yoga will act as a catalyst, enhancing the overall treatment
  5. Drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco or drug abuse should be avoided
  6. A Warm Ayurvedic oil application with gentle pressure is very effective in this if done on regular basis
  7. Stay happy and stress-free
