Back pain often strikes when something's amiss with the delicate column of bones, muscles, ligaments and joints that holds you up. But many other conditions, like strains, arthritis, hairline spine fractures and even kidney infections, can cause your back to throb.

What you can do

Ice first, heat later. As a pain reliever, ice works great. It temporarily blocks pain signals and helps reduce swelling. Several times a day, lay an ice pack wrapped in a towel on the painful area for up to 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can use a bag of frozen peas or corn. During the first few days of home treatment, apply the ice pack as frequently as necessary. Later you may still want to use ice after exercise or physical activities. After about 48 hours, switch to moist heat to stimulate blood flow and reduce painful spasms. Dip a towel in very warm water, wring it out, then flatten and fold it. Lie on your stomach with pillows under your hips and ankles. Place the towel across the painful area, cover the towel with plastic wrap, then put a heating pad - set on medium - atop the plastic. Leave it on for up to 20 minutes. You can repeat this three or four times a day for several days.
Perfect your posture. Look for the posture that places the least stress on your back. To do it, stand straight with your weight evenly balanced on both feet. Tilt your pelvis forward, then back, exaggerating the movement. Then settle into the position that feels most comfortable. Now 'work your way up' your back, focusing on one area at a time. First concentrate on the area near your waist, then your chest area, and finally your neck and shoulders. Try to feel which position is least stressful and most comfortable. This is the position to maintain when you're standing, walking, and beginning or ending any exercise.
Rise and shine. Each morning before you get out of bed, lie on your back and slowly stretch your arms overhead. Gently pull your knees to your chest, one at a time. To rise, roll to the edge of your bed, turn on your side, put your knees over the edge, and use one arm to push yourself up as you let your feet swing to the floor. Once you're on your feet, put your hands on your buttocks and lean back very slowly to stretch out your spine.
Rub in some relief. Ask a partner to massage the aching area. If you want to use a 'back rub' cream or ointment, go ahead, but use caution, as most topical creams produce skin irritation after a few applications. For a simple back massage aid, stuff several tennis balls into a long sock, tie the end of the sock, and have your partner roll it over your back.

A natural boost

Pick a pepper product. Your drugstore carries liniments that contain capsaicin, the heat-producing substance in hot peppers. Applied to your skin, capsaicin depletes nerve endings of a neurochemical called substance P. Researchers have found that substance P is essential for transmitting pain sensations to the brain, so when there's less substance P in circulation, the pain meter is turned down a bit. Look for a cream or ointment containing 0.075% or 0.025% capsaicin. And be patient: You may have to use it for several weeks to feel the full effect. Stop using it if you begin to feel any skin irritation.
Three or four times a day, take 500 milligrams of bromelain. Derived from pineapples, this enzyme promotes circulation, reduces swelling, and helps your body reabsorb the by-products of inflammation. Look for a strength between 1,200 and 2,400 MCU (milk clotting units) or 720 and 1,440 GDU (gelatin dissolving units). Wait for at least an hour after each meal before taking the bromelain, or it will work mainly in your gut instead of your muscles.

Therefore, be aware and vigilant of your personal space and how your body feels, particularly after spending time in wooded or “tick-friendly” areas. I am 43 years old women having two children, working in a compay. For past 6/7 months, more tiredness in the morning as soon as get up from bed and not feeling freshness. Eyes also doesnot look fresh in morning. The pain appears especially in shoulders and back hip more. Also appears in knee, legs. Carrying out regular jobs in morning becoming very tough in office as well as in home. Is any home remedy available? or please suggest how to come out this problem. Kindly show me digital x rays of chest & ls spine rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days bio d3 max 1tab od x10 do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

I took jhandu pancharista 60 ml daily for 15 days around 40 days ago. It is 11% alcoholic and contains some anti depressant. After stopping this medicine I am felling the withdrawal symptoms like head tremoring, pain in nerves ,legs and hands, difficulty in urination. Sometime headache. Will it go by it's own. Or should I take some steps. Is it life threatening or can cause some chronic head problem? My exams are going ,so I am quite busy. So can I hold for a month at least! These symptoms are not due to taking jhandu pancharishta. It helps to improve your digestion .it contains fermented herbal medicines which have no side effects. The symptoms you are feeling indicates some vitamins defficiency or may be due to dehydration. Drink minimum 8-10 glass of water everyday, eat 2 figs soaked in water whole night every morning. Eat whole fruits rather prefer than juices. Whole grains ,fibrous food are good for your digestion. Avoid junk food, hard and dry food, exercise or walk 30 minutes daily.

My father is suffering from blood sugar from last 2 years but we got to know about it a 6 months ago. And even after on going medication he feels body pain specially in the legs and he is unable to step down barefooted. His sugar rate keeps changing frequently. Hi Fluctuating blood sugars damages the nerves, especially the nerves of the legs. This causes a lot of pain in the legs and burning sensation and is called neuritis if it's because of high blood sugar and neuropathy if it's a long term problem. So control of blood sugars is very important. Diet: Avoid carbohydrates like rice, bread, pastas, potatoes especially at night. Eat lot of vegetables, proteins like sprouts, egg whites, paneer. Drink plenty of water. Exercise regularly, 30 min a day for atleast 5 days a week. For his leg pain I can prescribe it in a private chat.

Here I am to discuss something about a very common health problem that is acidity. In Ayurveda, this is understood as Amlipitam. This diseases is very common in today s generation because of the common issues which are propounding it lari vari shari kari. Acidity is due to more excess, excess of acid production in gastrointestinal tract overs. Normally the pH of stomach remains acidic. But in hyper acidic condition it gets escalated. For this it results in the conditions like heartburns, dyspepsia, belching and sometime bloating of stomach. Which can be easily seen and felt by the patient as symptoms and doctor can examine in the form of science.

The basic reasons for acidity is stressful conditions, we are living in, and insufficient sleeps, irregular way of taking meals. And also the suppression of our urges. These all conditions lead to aggravation of dosha, basically the pita dosha. And the stomach which is basically concern with the pita dosha is affected the most. And also the first part of intestine that is the duodenum which is very much involved in this. And the basic symptoms which occur in this diseases are belching. Heart burn, bloating heaviness of the stomach itching. Headache and even in the later stages it can seen as ulceration.

So how can we cure this disease? The thing which is very important in Ayurveda is prevention is better than cure. So better to prevent it. Better to get into the things which can check the excess of pita dosha which is known as the pit prokap ahar vehar. We should check it on. For this in Ayurveda we are getting two ways. It can be saan shodhan chikatsha, it can be sanshaman chikatsha. In sanshaman chikatsha which is basically concerned with suppression of the aggravated doshas. In this the pit shamak oshadi like, the yashti madhu, the shadang pani of course they are included in the diet of the patient. And vehara the things which areegated pita like kordha, kama. All the thing which increases the pita should be contained. And in the saan shodhan chikatsha, we do the eradication of dosha. In sanshaman, we suppress the dosha. In saan shodhan we eradicate the dosha out from the body by the usage of panchakarma chikatsha. Which is compressing of sneehan sheden waman geychannan basti.

Know More About Neck Pain
Hello, I am Dr Rajesh Pal. I am a physiotherapist and I have 17 years of clinical experience. I have been graduated from Utkal University and I have masters degree in Orthopaedics and physiotherapy. Today we are going to talk about very common problem which people are facing because of technology which is Neck pain.

India is a youth population and youth is technologically driven. So, they use more of laptops, spending more time on phones. So, because of the neck postures get affected and the muscles which control the posture of neck are under tremendous stress and gradually they develop some or other kind of problem which result into Neck pain. Today, I am going to give some tips that how to prevent all such problems.

There are different causes of Neck pain:-

Posture- One has to beware of their posture. If you keep your neck bent for a long time, then the neck muscles are in acute pressure that creates some kind of knots in that muscle which is called trigger point. So, here is my trick to prevent this that whenever you use your phone, keep the phone in eye level in order to keep your neck in neutral position. This will reduce the stress of trapezius muscle.
The second commonest cause is stress. We should adapt some technologies and modicfication in our lifestyle to take care of the stress. Under stress, these postural muscle remain in tightened state for a long period of time and that eventually leads to these kind of problems. Try to relax yourself. Go with the time and nature and keep yourself happy. One should not worry about what is happening and what should be the best way because nothing best is available in this world. Go with what is happening.
The third factor which contribute to these kind of problem is Sleep. Nowadays the sleeping schedule has changd because of work. In some MNCs, there is a culture in which people have to work in the night and sleep during the day. The sleeping pattern has changed and it is causing such kind of problems. So, try to maintain good sleep. Fix a time of sleeping. Keep the environment of the room in such a manner to induce better and relaxing sleep.
The another important factor is diet. The food we eat, plays an important role. Having a packed or preserved food can lead to muscle injury. This kind of food contains some chemicals which induce such problems. Avoid having these packed food and start having home made fresh food which is more healthy.
The last thing I want ot share is that spending more time on computer is harmful. Gadgets emit radiations which absorb water from our muscles. AS we know that our body is made up of 80% of the water. If the water quantity get reduced then the muscle problems starts developing. So, keep yourself hydrated. Make sure that you drink one glass of water in every 2 hours.
Do stretching exercises of neck muscles and shoulders.
If you indulge in such habits, you can easily prevent these problems.
