Drinking calamansi juice is a very popular practice in certain parts of asia due to its detoxifying ability on the body, the availability of the fruit, and the tart, unique flavor of the juice.

What is calamansi juice?

Calamansi juice is derived from the calamansi fruit, an extremely sour variety of citrus fruit commonly called golden limes. Scientifically known as citrofortunella microcarpa, this fruit is a hybrid of a member of the citrus genus and a kumquat, and is widely cultivated in southeast asia, particularly in the philippines. This sour fruit is rich in vitamin c and certain antioxidants, such as limonene, as well potassium, vitamin a and calcium. Although the juice from this fruit is incredibly sour, many people still consume it on a regular basis due to its many impressive health benefits.

The strong citric acid levels in this juice help itcut through phlegm and mucus, where infections often live and propagate, while also soothing inflammation in the throat and respiratory tracts.

Calamansi juice for weight loss

This tropical juice is legendary for its impact on weight loss, as it has the ability to not only boost the metabolism, but also eliminate many of the toxins in the body that can contribute to fat storage. By increasing metabolic speed, this juice can improve passive fat-burning throughout the day, while detoxifying the body will help all of your organ systems run more smoothly and function properly, aiding in calorie burning. By reducing fat storage, you will have more usable energy and less adipose fat formation. Many people drink a glass of calamansi juice every morning to stimulate the body and achieve weight-loss goals.

Calamansi juice substitute

If you are in certain parts of the world, getting your hands on fresh calamansi limes may be difficult, in which case you will want to replace this juice in recipes or in your morning juice. These substitutes can mimic the acidity and tartness, and even deliver some of the same health benefits. The best substitutes for calamansi juice include regular lime juice, white wine vinegar, white wine, tamarind or black lime.

Side effects calamansi juice

This simple juice has many impressive health benefits, but can also cause a few side effects, including gastrointestinal distress and a heightened risk of kidney problems.

Stomach issues – while many people praise calamansi juice for its detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties, it is still a very astringent and potentially irritating substance for the stomach. If you have a sensitive gut, be sure to moderate your intake of calamansi juice to prevent acid reflux, diarrhea, stomach upset and cramping. Kidney health – with a high level of vitamin c and the ability to stimulate urination, this fruit juice can detoxify the body, but for people with kidney issues, diuretics can lead to numerous complications and even a worsening of your condition, so speak with a doctor first.
