Arm Pain: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

What is Arm Pain?

Any pain in the wrist, shoulder, elbow or any other part of the arm can be identified as an arm pain. There are multiple ways to treat the pain in the arm. Arm pain can be caused because of a number of reasons like pinched nerves, sprains, tendonitis, cuff injury, broken bone, angina, and rheumatoid arthritis among many other reasons. Sometimes a throbbing pain in the left arm can be associated with a possibility of a heart attack as well. There are a number of home remedies which can be turned to before taking heavy medications. Using ice to reduce the pain and swelling can help in some cases. Wrapping the concerned are with an elastic bandage can also help in reducing the swelling. However, you need to make sure that you have not wrapped the area below the affected region too tightly. Other alternatives like wearing a sling or gently massaging the area to encourage blood flow and relieve pain can also be used to make you feel better.

The electrotherapy which is used by physiotherapists have certain side effects as the patients often complain of getting a burn or a rash and also feel nauseous and dizzy while getting the therapy. Other medications can make you feel dizzy and give you a headache as well.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Patients have to be very careful about not injuring the concerned area again as the pain might start again. Completing the medications and physiotherapy is a must for complete recovery.

How long does it take to recover?

A couple of sessions of physiotherapy can help get rid of the pain. The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the pain and the nature of it. Once the treatment is completed, the patient gets completely recovered in almost no time.
