What is Arm Pain?

Any pain in the wrist, shoulder, elbow or any other part of the arm can be identified as an arm pain. There are multiple ways to treat the pain in the arm. Arm pain can be caused because of a number of reasons like pinched nerves, sprains, tendonitis, cuff injury, broken bone, angina, and rheumatoid arthritis among many other reasons. Sometimes a throbbing pain in the left arm can be associated with a possibility of a heart attack as well. There are a number of home remedies which can be turned to before taking heavy medications. Using ice to reduce the pain and swelling can help in some cases. Wrapping the concerned are with an elastic bandage can also help in reducing the swelling. However, you need to make sure that you have not wrapped the area below the affected region too tightly. Other alternatives like wearing a sling or gently massaging the area to encourage blood flow and relieve pain can also be used to make you feel better.

Physiotherapy can also be used as most arm pain respond to physiotherapy quickly. This treatment cures the pain faster and helps you resume your daily activities without any difficulties. The nature of the problem will be assessed by the physiotherapist in the first session. Depending on the kind of pain, the therapist decides on the treatment plan which will help the patient best. Massage therapy, stretching and exercising may be a part of the subsequent sessions. The patient may also need to alter his/her diet and lifestyle.

How is the treatment done?

If the patient is suffering from severe pain in the arm then physiotherapy can be the best treatment to opt for. In a physiotherapy session, the therapist tries to figure out the real cause and nature of the pain and then suggests the best way of curing the pain. Exercising and stretching along with multiple massage therapies can help cure the pain. The physiotherapist will evaluate your muscle strength and train sitting and standing balance. Physiotherapy sessions include hydrotherapy sessions depending on the demand of the situation. Exercises to reduce spasticity are also suggested by physiotherapists.

If the case is not that serious then many treatments at home can also help reduce the pain. Using ice on the concerned area can help reduce the swelling and the pain. A number of simple exercises and stretches can relax your muscle. You should give enough rest and protect the sore area from any further mishap.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Patients have to be very careful about not injuring the concerned area again as the pain might start again. Completing the medications and physiotherapy is a must for complete recovery.

How long does it take to recover?

A couple of sessions of physiotherapy can help get rid of the pain. The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the pain and the nature of it. Once the treatment is completed, the patient gets completely recovered in almost no time.
