The new drug invokana has come into the market for type 2 diabetic. The basic role of the drug is to block the re absorption of sugar, segregated by kidney, again in the blood stream. This sugar along with other important ingredients are then flushed out though urine. My question is do the patient requires any supplement for the loss of other ingredients which are necessary for body balance?

The drug canagliflozin (invokana) acts on sgl2 receptors in the kidney and prevents reabsorption of glucose from kidney and reduces blood sugar. In this action there is no additional effect on other substances that are excreted by kidney. There is no excess loss of any otherelctrolyr by the action of canagliflozin.
