My name is S P Mohanty, Age 40 years recently detected Diabetics. My sugar level before food is 160 to 180 and after food 200 to 220 without medicines. Since one month I am having glycomet SR 500 mg once daily and now sugar level reduced to 120/140. I don't want to have alopathic medicines for life long. Hence requesting you how effectively this can be treated in Ayurveda and what are the medicines.

Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes mellitus (t2) occurs either due to deficiency of insulin or resistance to its action or both. Plus overweight and inactivity contribute in increasing and maintaining high blood glucose level. Hence, treatment is directed towards increasing insulin level by giving certain drugs that stimulate secretion. Secondly certain other drugs are used to reduce resistance. All these are oral preparations. Some times hyperglycemia is very severe, then insulin injections have to be used, along with oral drugs. As regards other medical practices, there are really no drugs available which can stimulate insulin secretion or replace insulin itself. Those drugs can be used as supportive medicines. I have answered even though you wanted an ayurvedic specialist to give the answer, because I felt certain facts should be brought to your notice. Plus modern anti diabetes drugs are quite safe.
