Sangeetha ji, Thanks for the query. Madam, whenever blood glucose is corrected (or brought to normal levels) by oral anti-diabetes drugs, that type of diabetes is considered as Type 2 DM. In case of T1 DM only Insulin injection is the treatment. In that condition oral drugs are and other drugs used to reduce blood glucose have no role to play. Therefore, if metformin helps in controlling blood glucose then it has to be T2 DM. But most important aspect to remember is that one should maintain a strict control on blood glucose that is FBG should be < 100 mg, PP should be 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% should be < 6.5%. This helps the person to remain free from diabetes associated long term complications affecting eyes, kidney, lower limbs, heart blood vessels and peripheral nerves etc. Thanks.
