I am 6 weeks pregnant and have very painful anal fissure. I am taking psyllium husk, drinking water, sitz baths. But pain is still unbearable. Will using topical nifedipine/lignocaine be safe for the baby? Anobliss formulation also contains imidurea. Is that safe too?

These ointments may not be safe during pregnancy. Avoid using them. * take high fiber diet - apples, multigrain bread/chapatis, beans, citrus fruits * drink plenty of fluids * continue sitz baths since you are already doing the above 3, there are a few additional things that can be done: 1. Moderate exercise/walking about 30 minutes a day - it helps with bowel movements, improves circulation which in turn promotes faster healing of anal fissures. 2. After coming back from the washroom and sitz bath - gently pat the area dry with a soft towel. Keeping it dry may help with healing. Avoid using tissue paper - use non-alcohol baby wipes instead 3. Lubricating the anus with petroleum jelly before passing stools may help 4. Avoid straining on stools.

Hello lybrate-user. In addition to the psyllium husk, you may want to add a paraffin-based laxative which will help you pass your stools smoothly. Topical nifedipine/lignocaine is usually not contraindicated in pregnancy, however, I would suggest you consult a local surgeon for a proper examination and prescription regarding the same. Using some topical lignocaine 10-15 mins before stools and immediately after may keep your pain somewhat under control.
