Hi all, I am a 27 years old female. I am having dandruff issues since a long time now. The dandruff is flaky kind. The situation gets under control if I keep using head and shoulders shampoo or ketoconazole lotion with a general shampoo. But as soon as I stop using either an anti dandruff shampoo or the ketoconazole lotion, and use just a general shampoo, my dandruff comes back again. Will I have to use either for lifetime? Is there a permanent solution that I can use for a few weeks/months and dandruff hoes away permanently?

Is the problem you described here is all over scalp or localised to one or two area? If you severe problem of dandruff then you need oral medication as well as topical. I suggest you to consult your dermatologist. It is treatable disease. You can use ketoconazole shampo and zpio or can chnge the molecule like ciclopirox olamine containing shampoo along with topical medicine. Thanks.

If dandruff comes back again and again then there is no harm in using anti dandruff shampoo. You must start doing oiling at least 3 times a week as anti dandruff shampoo does cause hair a bit frizzy. Do oiling overnight and apply kevon lotion in morning for 15 minutes to whole scalp and wash thoroughly with anti dandruff shampoo so that oil and kevon get washed away completely. After wash don’t apply anything like oil or serum. Continue this for treatment for at least 2-3 months.

Hi. Seborrhea (dandruff) is caused by fungal infection and also related to increasing sebum production. With increasing age the sebum production decreases and also the seborrhea. So continue using ketoconazole/ antifungal shampo for some time. Revise the diagnosis if there is localised dandruff along with a plaque. Visit dermatolgist. Thanks.
