Hello there, I am asking on behalf of my father, who is around 62 years old with diabetes, and he does take insulin regularly. I live in canada while my father lives in yemen, which means he only have limited access to healthcare. Furthermore, the quality of healthcare is extremely low and because of cavity-19, many practitioners chose to stop their services because it is hard and expensive to supply ppe to yemen. Around 2 months ago, my father fell on the back of his head, and became unresponsive until he received care at a clinic. The doctors ran scans and said that there are no signs of brain damage, but he temporarily lost memories of what happened in that day. Few days later, he said that moving his eyeball can sometimes trigger a yellowish flash in his vision for a short amount of time. He also feels ?numbness? in his fingers, which he describes as (an electric shock). A couple of weeks later, he said that he lost some of the feel of pain in his hand, and that he did?t realize that a large needle penetrated his hand until he saw it (i know this is common in diabetic people, but the timing is concerning for me). He also said that heat started to affect him a lot, he can?t walk a short distance (less than 10 minutes) under the sun even though he carries an umbrella, which never happened before. Right now _2 months after the falling incident_ he said that whenever he cleans dishes, he can not feel how smooth they are, which was confusing for me. He said that ?whenever he cleans the dishes, he expects them to feel smooth, but when he touches them, he feels a rough surface, just like if there are small things still stuck to them?. He also started exhibiting a more concerning symptom: whenever he spends time looking down or up (like when he is reading) and then changes his head position, he will have severe numbness from around his belly button towards his thighs, to the point he can not stand up. He said that he keeps moving his head slowly back and forth, and the numbness gets less severe every time. He described that as a ?electric battery losing its charge each time?. Eventually, the numbness will become less severe that he will be able to stand up. He said that his brother in law (who is diabetic also) started having the same symptom around the same just a couple of weeks before him! and that his doctor told him to take (neurobion), which looks like a vitamin supplement. Both me and my father are worried. I appreciate each piece of help and advice, and please let me know if there is anything else I forgot to mention.

Dear lybrate-user, I can understand our concern and your father's plight living alone in yemen without proper medical facilities. The symptoms he describes suggests that he may have hurt the upper part of the spinal cord in the neck when he fell down. There is likely to be instability in the joints between the vertebrae in the neck. Under the circumstances we can only advise a neck collar to stabilize the neck to be worn whenever he is up and around. When he lies down he should use a thin pillow. He should avoid sudden neck movements to prevent further injury. If possible he can get and mri of the cervical spine done and it is likely to show the location and extent of damage. He can then consider meeting a neurosurgeon after the covid 19 problem is over regards professor m s seshadri.
