Hello doctor, I have a history of pcos and thyroid from past 10 years. I was taking thyronorm 25 mg to 50 mg from past few years. But with doctors consultation, I have stopped taking thyroid medicine from past 10 months. Recently I again had problem of irregular periods. My periods were supposed to come on 17 feb but they came on 16 may, and its been more than 8 days it has not stopped. I consulted gynecologist here, and she has prescribed me pamba 250 mg tablet thrice a day for 5 days. Also, she did my blood test and in the results my tsh was 7.33. She said I should consult endocrinologist. I wanted to ask, if I should start thyronorm again. If yes how much mg?

Hello. There are many causes of irregular periods like stress, anxiety, thyroid dysfunction, increased prolactin, obesity, medications and pcos. You need lifestyle modification which includes 1) weight reduction 2) avoiding high calorie food 3) regular exercises 4) daily brisk walk for 30 min with this you may need some hormonal medications for regularising your cycle. As per your query regarding thyroid medications, its best you consult an endocrinologist but often in symptomatic patients even in cases of subclinical hypothyroidism we need yo give thyroid medications.
