Hello doctor I am diagnosed with severe iron deficiency anaemia with hb 6.1 ,iron <15 and serum ferritin as low as 5. I got 1 unit of blood transfusion after which my hb was 7.9 and I am also taking iron injection mixed in saline in alternate days. But still my hb is 7.5 it has rather decreased. Pls suggest some better option as oral iron medicine causes diarrhoea to me and I am also having a kidney stone of 4 mm. Please advise.

Hi lybrate-user, first do all health check up to know whether other complications are there or not. For now you can add iron rich food like egg yolk, fish, leafy veg, dates, jaggery in your diet. With that don't forget to add vitamin c foods like amla, orange, lemon etc for iron absorption. Thanks.
