Avoid ice-cold drinks and food to prevent swelling of your throat. If your doctor prescribed an epinephrine autoinjector (EpiPen, Auvi-Q, others), keep it with you to help prevent serious reactions Since thalassemia is a genetic disorder, there's no way to prevent it. However, there are ways you can manage the disease to help prevent complications. In addition to hepatitis vaccines and ongoing medical care, diet and exercise may also be helpful.
