Dear doctor, I am female, 34 yrs, have graves hyperthyroid, used methimazole, went into remission, again my level of tsh dropped even after treatment, tsh less than 0.01, I don't want radio iodine, can I manage graves life long with drugs, please explain.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. Usually Methimazole or any other anti-thyroid drug therapy is given over a period of 12 to 18 months. If need be Methimazole may be repeated for one more time. However, there is always a possibility of relapse. Plus multiple side effects associated with antithyroid drugs. If furthar relapse occur, then best method to treat is to use Radio Active Iodine, This is a simpler method with very few side effects and better outcomes. Thanks.
