not necessarily he will need insulin if blood sugar is well maintained and diet and exercise is followed as advised

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. As you are aware diabetes occurs because of either lack of Insulin or resistance to its action or both being there. When T2 diabetes is detected usually 50% of the beta cells only remain functioning. Plus as the disease continues for years, the excess blood glucose and excess fat in the body damage the beta cells more. Hence, slowly their number goes down. Later almost all the patients with T2 diabetes, end up using insulin along with oral drugs for better glucose control. Thanks.
