I have mild depression and have been advised to take c-pram. However the doctor has also asked me to take clonorest along with it. From practo, I have come to know that clonorest induces depression as a side effect. And it's for treatment of panic attacks which is not a problem of mine. Also clonorest causes dependency. So is it OK if I just have C-pram and not clonorest?

Hi lybrate-user, Clonorest (clonazepam, isa benzodiazepine) which if used on a regular basis can cause dependence. If it is indicated in your condition for example to improve sleep or reduce anxiety, I suggest that you only use it as and when required. Citalopram (c-pram) is an antidepressant and is the most important medicine for you totake and it has to be taken everyday. So to answer your question- if your depression is mild and not troubled with insomnia or anxiety symptoms then taking citalopram alone should be sufficient. However, like I would always advise- please discuss with your own psychiatrist so he is aware of what your concerns are about medications and therefore can suggest what is best for you.
