For that one needs to adapt a modified lifestyle. Which means: 1) Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made from maida, and foods containing sweet corn syrup. 2) Avoid sweetened aerated drinks (colas), 3) Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits at least 3 to 5 servings per day, 4) Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati and use less polished (brown) rice. 5) Refrain from alcohol and smoking. 6) Exercise daily for at least 1 hour and maintain near normal body weight and do not allow waist circumference to cross 90 cms.
