Hello, everybody, I am Dr Puneet Nayak, CMD Prettislim Clinic. Today I will be talking about how to remain fit and healthy in today’s busy life. All of us want to remain fit and healthy, but we always complain we are short of time. I believe that more than shortness of time. It is the lack of motivation or the lack of action which makes us to not achieve our fitness goals. So first thing is that focus, that orientation, that yes, fitness is important, like other aspects of life like career, family life, social life, entertainment, fitness is also something important which needs to be given time, effort, energy and focus. Once you develop this orientation, then the next step will automatically come in. Next step is, finding good professionals. Like every other field of this world, fitness is a specialized field. You need good professionals or good centres where you can have specialized professionals like dieticians, physicians, fitness trainers, yoga trainers to help you achieve your fitness goals.

At Prettislim, we are eleven year old clinic with a team of 50 doctors, 25 dieticians, 20 counsellors and 6 physicians in our team. We help you achieve your fitness and slimming goals, through the use of human involvement as well as the use of latest technology, as well as the use of technology to give you reminders and support you during the program. So after finding a good professional place and centre, it is also very important to take charge of your fitness, because until you take charge then your goals will not be achieved. And it is also important to know that fitness is not an all-or-none phenomenon, it is not that either you have a big pot belly, or you have a six pack. You can always be somewhere in the middle.

So if you’re better than what you were yesterday, a week back, or a month back, you are in the right direction. So keep up the momentum. If you make unreasonable goals, then you’re bound to fail, and which will reduce your motivation and you will go haywire. So if you are better than what you were yesterday, a week back, or a month back, keep your bag packed and move ahead. You are in the right direction. Also, it is very important to keep a variety of fitness regimen. Sometimes you’re doing walking, jogging, treadmill, sometimes some games, this will keep you pep up, you will not get bored, otherwise, if you get bored you drop, everything and become lethargic. Keep a variety.

Also, it is important that use some good fitness nutritional supplements, like protein, fibre, calcium, vitamin, as they are very important to help you achieve your fitness goals. So be regular, don’t hesitate, it is going to help you. Apart from this, it’s also very important that sometimes it might happen that you may lose focus and you may go haywire. But don’t worry. Find a good occasion to remotivate yourself. It can be your birthday, a new year, a friend’s marriage, or it can be even your upcoming holiday. Use it as a motivation tool, and get your ball rolling again. In no time, you will be able to achieve your fitness goals again. Also, be attentive towards your fitness regimen. Read more, listen more, watch more about your fitness, because fitness is an ever-changing field.

Like in Prettislim we introduced four-in-one technology 4 years back. Where we use four technologies in one treatment of 60 minutes to help you lose your unwanted body fat. So you only need 60 minutes a week, which can definitely fit into your busy schedule. Over and above, you get dietician support through slimming tips as well as SMS, Whatsapp, and e-mail.

So what are you waiting for? If you don’t have time, still you can become fit and healthy by just giving 60 minutes a week. I am sure the tools which I have suggested you in my video would help you to achieve your fitness goals even if you’re busy. For more information, you can always connect me through Lybrate.com, or know more about us at www.prettislim.com.

Thank you very much.

Are You Obese? Don t You Feel Discriminated Against?

Are You Obese? Don t You Feel Discriminated Against?

Surveys highlight the horrifying fact that obese people are discriminated against in all walks of life business, personal, professional and social. If you are an eyesore to others, your chances at getting what you are after, are fairly dim. Sad and unfair, but true!

Obesity is recognized by the National Institute of Health as a disease in itself, and the medical problems caused by Obesity are serious and often life-threatening. In fact, Obesity isn’t just a cosmetic problem — it’s a health hazard. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as compared to an average-weight person after 10 to 30 years of being Obese.

Obesity causes:

  1. Diabetes
  2. Heart disease
  3. High blood pressure
  4. Stroke
  5. Infertility
  6. Snoring
  7. Menstrual irregularities
  8. Higher rates of certain – Types of cancer
  9. Gall bladder disease, gallstones
  10. Osteoarthritis
  11. Gout
  12. Breathing problems (including sleep apnea)

Almost all of these problems are relieved by permanent and significant weight loss. But for many obese people, health concerns are less important than the emotional suffering they face at the hands of thinner people.

Modern society places great emphasis on physical appearance, and equates attractiveness with slimness, especially in women. Many people assume that Obese people are gluttonous, lazy, stupid and self-indulgent, and because of these attitudes, Obese people daily face prejudice and discrimination at work, in school, while job-hunting, and in social situations. Feelings of rejection, shame, and depression are common.

Overweight people find it more difficult to get and keep a job. In jobs, obese workers are often overlooked because they do not present a corporate or professional ‘image’. Heavy people are discriminated against even by their insurance companies.

The best approach to achieving and maintaining weight loss is a life-long commitment to regular exercise and sensible eating habits. As many as 85% of dieters who do not exercise on a regular basis regain their lost weight within two years. In five years, the figure rises to 90%. Exercise increases the metabolic rate by creating muscle, which burns more calories than fat. When regular exercise is combined with regular, healthful meals, calories continue to burn at an accelerated rate for several hours.

Obese people need to aim for permanent lifestyle changes of healthier eating, regular physical activity, and a better outlook towards food, because without a long-term commitment, body weight will slowly increase.

Postnatal Weight Loss - All You Should Know!

Postnatal Weight Loss - All You Should Know!

Women who have recently given birth and are aiming to shed the extra pounds gained during pregnancy are in for quite a struggle. You not only have to adjust your life to a new schedule but also need to recover physically from the stressful effects of pregnancy.

The ideal time for losing weight-

According to health experts, you should ideally aim to come back to your original weight in at least, 6-12 months after the delivery. Women, who are careful about their fitness levels, try to regain their original weight by the end of 6 weeks time.

As is normal in the case of losing weight, all you need to do is incorporate a healthy diet as part of your daily meal plan coupled with regular exercise. Breastfeeding also aids in losing weight post-pregnancy.

Do not rush!

During pregnancy, a woman's body goes through a lot, not just physically but mentally as well. Therefore, you need to give yourself ample time to recover. In order to do this, you should wait until your 6-week check-up to find out if you are healthy once again. Many doctors recommend waiting for a period of two months if you are planning to breastfeed your baby. This period helps to normalize the milk supply. On receiving the thumbs up from your doctor, you should concentrate on cutting down your calories.

What if you are breastfeeding?

Women who are breastfeeding their baby, or are planning to do so should aim to lose weight slowly and gradually. Losing weight drastically will make you produce a lower quantity of milk that might hamper the growth of your baby. According to doctors as well as dieticians, breastfeeding helps the body to burn calories.

Meal plan for weight loss-

Follow a few healthy tips to lose weight slowly and safely without putting either your life or the life of your baby in jeopardy.

• Oftentimes new mothers now frazzled with the responsibility of a baby forget to eat or consume their meals very late. This should not happen. If you do not give time to yourself for meals or intend on crash dieting by not eating, you will not have enough energy, and may even fall sick.

• Try to eat smaller meals from time to time to harness more energy rather than having three big meals.
• Eating a healthy and nutritious breakfast is very important as it gives you the necessary energy that you need to perform physical activities throughout the day.
• Eat slowly with your entire focus on your meal. This way you will be able to avoid overeating.
• Avoid consuming dairy products or try to consume those, which are low in fat.
• Consume foods such as lean protein or those that are rich in fibre. You should also ensure to have them either boiled or broiled.

The only way you can become a healthier and happier version of your previous self is when you accept the fact that often it is not possible to return completely to your former self. Pregnancy is likely to leave lasting changes on your body. So, be accepting of yourself as well as realistic.

Being Fit And Slim - Is It A Necessity!

Did you know that people are programmed to be attracted to those seen as fit, and therefore attractive? Believe it or not, physical beauty is prized out there in business, in social and professional circles.

For many older citizens, keeping the fitness of their bodies and minds correctly means that they are also able to continue to interact in their chosen work profession, keeping them continually active, and serving as a continued source of enjoyment.

The benefits of being fit and keeping active is an improved quality of life– being able to do things you enjoy for longer periods of time. For example, playing with kids, gardening, dancing, or walking.

Being fit has many short-term benefits, such as an improved sense of well-being, and long-term benefits, such as reducing the risk of suffering many debilitating diseases.

How Does Alcohol Affect Body Weight?

MBBS, DFM, Diploma in Diet and Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
How Does Alcohol Affect Body Weight?

When you want to lose weight, any dietician will tell you to exercise and monitor the food that you consume. You gain weight when you are consuming more calories than you are burning. Alcohol contains calories and so they need to be considered in your calculation of daily calorie intake.

Calorie content of some popular drinks

Here is a list of how many calories are present in some of your favourite drinks-

• 12 ounces of beer contain 150 calories
• 5 ounces of red wine contain 125 calories
• 5 ounces of white wine contain 121 calories
• 1.5 ounces of gin, vodka or rum contain 100 calories
• 4 ounces of champagne contain 85 calories

Influence of alcohol on your body

Moderate drinking refers to just one drink for women and two for men. More than four or five drinks a day qualifies as binge drinking. Your bloodstream picks up the alcohol and sends it to all parts of the body. That is why the ill effects of binging on alcohol manifest as problems spread out all over the body. However, the most noticeable effect is an increase in body weight.

Why does alcohol lead to an increase in body weight?

Alcohol in itself contains a lot of calories. But what makes a drink even more harmful for your body is the amount of sugar and additives that are present in it. Alcohol’s calories are empty i.e. they have no nutritional values but they lead to weight gain. Multiple pieces of research have shown that if you are a heavy drinker, you have 41% higher chances of being overweight than people who abstain from drinking.

• Alcohol also stimulates hunger, which means you feel hungrier when you consume alcohol. Therefore, you eat more and that affects the body’s inhibitors. You will crave for food you will not pause to wonder if the food you are consuming is healthy or not. Moreover, people always consume snacks with alcohol. None of these snacks is healthy for you and can make you gain weight.

• When you drink too much, it impairs the function of your liver. Your liver is responsible for processing alcohol. Therefore, your body cannot metabolize the alcohol and fats begin to accumulate.

• Yet another reason why alcohol can lead to weight gain is that it affects the function of the central nervous system. So all the mechanisms of your body slow down, including your metabolism. When metabolism is slow, you tend to pile on the kilos.

Alcohol in moderation has benefits but when you consume too much of it, your body is affected and the first sign is a rapid increase in weight. Rapid weight gain can again lead to a number of health conditions like obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, etc. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and only stick to a glass or two twice a week.

New Year Resolution - 5 Dietary Tips To Maintain Good Health!

In the upcoming year, all of us want to put our best foot forward and ensure a happy and healthy life. We want a new thinner, healthier, more energetic and flexible body next year. We also want to get back to our few years old skinny jeans. So, what are the new year resolutions for 2019 that will up our health quotient substantially?

Read on for the five hottest dietary changes to take care of your health:

  1. Eat more Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acid is good for the heart. You can get Omega-3 by eating walnuts, fish and flax seeds. Omega-3 is also good for getting help with PMS and menopause symptoms.
  2. Pile up on veggies: Daily recommended intake of veggies is three servings or more. How many of us reach this target? And then we complain of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Veggies are our source for many important vitamins. So to tackle fatigue, muscle pains, low sex drive and vision problems, you can consciously eat more veggies in the new year.
  3. Fibre is key to health: Fibre found in veggies, fruits and whole grains is crucial for the health of the gut. Remember the adage that all diseases begin from the gut, so make fibre a part of your daily diet. Getting enough fibre will also prevent cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and a number of cancers. It will also help you slim down. Remember that the recommended daily intake of fibre is 21 to 38 grams.
  4. Cut down on meat: This will be of great help to your heart because you will be eliminating a huge source of saturated fats which increases LDL that causes obstructions in heart arteries. Go for more tofu, soya and white meat.
  5. Treat sugar as enemy no.1: We all eat too much sugar. In fact, scientists are calling sugar as the most potent drug of the 21st century and with good reason. Health hazards of excess sugar consumption include excess weight gain, abdominal obesity, elevated triglycerides etc. Sugar also increases inflammation in the body and this is the cause of a number of deadly diseases. One sure-fire way to cut down on sugars is to stop eating out of packets. Yes, processed foods contain a lot of hidden sugars and fats. Nixing processed foods will up your health quotient naturally.

Start a food journal to keep track of what you eat and also convince your friends and family to join in your healthy New Year plans. This way, you will have a support system in place to keep you motivated and on the go.

Look Slimmer Instantly!

Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Look Slimmer Instantly!

Everyone wants to look perfect without too much effort. And there are a few tips and tricks that might help you look slimmer. If you learn how to choose the right combination of clothes, accessories and apply your makeup correctly, you can certainly look slimmer than you really are. For this, you simply have to watch out your heaviest parts and figure out your actual figure. Once you know this, you will be able to dress and hide your flabbiness smartly. Just keep in mind that if you are 4 – 5 kgs more than your ideal weight, you will be easily able to hide that slight flabbiness that occurs at specific places. However, in order to achieve this, you need to follow a few tips and tricks and pay attention to some important details that emphasize your qualities and hide your flaws.

1. Look Slim With The Right Clothes & Accessories

A. Choosing the right Colours: Prefer wearing one colour from top to bottom or you have lighter or darker shade of the same colour also. You can bring variety by adding up bright coloured shoes if you like.

Avoid too bright colors. Wearing clothes in too bright and vivid colors draws all the attention on the areas you want to camouflage. It is a globally recognized fact that black color, if used properly could make you seem surprisingly slimmer. Prefer dark coloured clothes especially on the parts that are flabby. Black and navy blue are your best friends and life savers in case you want to “drop” a few pounds. Remember, dark colour is weight minimizing and it draws attention towards itself too. If you want to mix different colors, make sure you choose them in similar tones.

If you are wearing a light coloured blouse, put on a dark coloured tailor-made jacket. This will make you look thinner. A blazer in a dark color has to be a must-have in every woman’s wardrobe. It flatters every body shape as it accentuates the waist and it ends on the hips. Wear it unbuttoned over a t-shirt. Also, Jackets & Pullovers can have the same slimming effect, if you choose one with a longer cut.

B. Choosing Tops for Looking Slim: Whatever you wear choose V-necks, boat necks, open-caller button ups and scoop necks. Avoid high necks, chinese necks and polo necks if you wish to look thin.

If you have a chubby neck, choose V- NECK LINE.

They create the illusion of a longer, leaner body & give a slim look.

Wearing a flown and low neck blouse with a short skirt or skinny jeans will also help you look thinner and taller.

Wear tops that are tight on the chest and has long neck. Prefer the tops that appear loose at your waist like an A line or umbrella as well. In any case, let the top flow away from the waist so that it keeps away the attention of people from your large waist.

C. Choosing Bottoms for Looking Slim: Skinny jeans usually have stretch in them, so they’re figure flattering and will make you feel thinner. You’ve to get them in darker denim. With the skinny jeans, choose a top that looks great and can secretly tame your tummy.

When wearing western outfits, remember boot cut jeans are best for you. You can also go for low waist jeans. Mid length jackets will be perfect over that. Avoid baggy or long coats.

Skirts made of stretchable material can also appear looking good on you if you are a little over weight.

When choosing skirts, avoid pleated ones rather choose A-line pattern and skinny skirts that have a slit at the back. Be sure that the slit is up to your knees. If you love skirts, avoid the extremes, and stay away from too short or too long. The short ones will make your legs look thicker, while longer ones will only add volume and therefore extra pounds. A midi skirt is the perfect choice for a skinny and chic appearance.

High-waist pants or skirts are perfect if you have generous curves, as they camouflage a big stomach and anaesthetic love handles. Even if you might be a little reticent when it comes to accentuating your waist, you should know that a fine belt can really have a magic effect.

If your bottom is heavy nothing will look more beautiful than wearing a sensuous saree or you can also have anarkali cut kurta with a churidar preferably.

Vertical lines and small prints. This is one trick that always works. Clothes with vertical stripes are the best option when you want to hide a few pounds and look taller and slimmer. Wear striped skirts, pants, blouses, t-shirts and even dresses. As for prints, small and discrete ones can help you obtain a more structured outfit. Avoid horizontal stripes as this will make you appear shorter and fatter as well.

Clothes that are too loose add bulk to your figure & too tight makes you look fatter. Opting for a WELL FIT clothes gives slim look.

D. Wearing High Heels: Heels can make you look taller. But make sure you are comfortable with them and can carry them perfectly.

Remember, when you are in heels your jeans or the long skirt must cover your heels.

High-heeled shoes and sandals are a mandatory item for every woman who wants to look slimmer. If you feel rather uncomfortable wearing high-heeled shoes, try a pair of wedges or platform sandals.

E. Right Makeup: Makeup is one of the elements that can do wonders. Use eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara in order to pop out those eyes. The bigger your eyes, the slimmer your face features will look.

In order to slim down your face, you have to avoid applying blush on the apples of your cheekbones, and apply it starting from the back of the cheekbones and going up to the temples.

Leg makeup. Even if it sounds a bit strange, you should know that this trick really works. Apply a line along your legs using oil, right in the centre, this gives a glowing effect and will make your legs look longer.

F. Wear a Corset: You can a wear a well fitted corset to look slimmer & in shape instantly. It is advised only for short duration for e.g. in a party or any social occasion. You can use corset to make your waist line look slimmer. They make every outfit look better. Corset for men are also available these days.

Avoid prolonged use.

G. Choose right Accessories: Play with accessories if you want to draw the attention on your best features and draw it away from the parts you feel insecure about. Therefore, chunky jewellery, scarves, belts, hats or any other accessory you find relevant and useful can help you emphasize your qualities and hide flaws.

2. Time for Change: Change your appearance and add spice to your life without breaking the bank. You don’t need to renovate your wardrobe if you’re looking for change a few snips in the right places will do the trick.

Changing your look every now and again does wonders for your self-esteem, and it also gives you a break from an otherwise monotonous existence. You will be surprised at how much it will pep you up. A different hairstyle can do wonders for changing your entire image and this goes for men too (think Aamir Khan in Dil Chahta Hai).

A tousled, messy and rebellious hair will only help your face by making it look smaller and offering an elongated shape. Try a back comb hairstyle, adding extra volume for a stylish, sexy look. Also, choose the right haircut for your face shape, one that instantly elongates your face. Or start off by getting a haircut and we mean a proper cut, not just a trim. Changing your look doesn’t necessarily mean that long hair should be cut short. You can keep the length if you so desire and get it cut in steps, or, shorten it from the front so that it frames your face. Avoid getting a fringe unless your hair is very straight, silky and thick so that the fringe bounces back on your forehead every time you run your hands through it or when the wind blows.

If you don’t want to cut your hair, think about colouring it. You could go in for an all-over colour or for highlights. If you go in for an all-over colour, opt for a colour just a few shades different to your natural hair shade. If you do want to go in for a colour very different from yours opt for highlighting instead of all-over colour. Add a few more highlights to the front of your face so they are more visible, and fewer highlights scattered through your hair at the back. In this manner your hair texture will not suffer.

3. Sleep Well: Get enough sleep. If you feel your body has a slow metabolism, getting sufficient sleep is a great way to boost it. This does not mean that you sleep for forty days and forty nights at a stretch and expect to wake up skinny as a bamboo stick! Sorry, but you’re just not that lucky. However, if your body is not getting sufficient sleep, it slows down your metabolism. Try and catch eight to nine hours of sleep every night; you will end up burning more calories than you did with just six or seven hours of sleep.

4. Brighten Up: Expose yourself to a healthy dose of sunlight. Unlike most vitamins, Vita D can be manufactured by your body, provided you’re exposed to sunlight. Receptors in your brain need Vita D to keep hunger and cravings in check, as well as to pump up levels of the mood-elevating chemical serotonin. (Good thing, since dieting often comes with a heaping side of crankiness.) Vita D even optimizes your body’s ability to absorb other important weight-loss nutrients, especially calcium. When your body lacks calcium, it can experience up to a fivefold increase in the fatty acid syntheses, an enzyme that converts calories into fat. Therefore a healthy dose of sunlight helps a lot to slim you down.

Did you know that dark rooms tend to make you feel low, and also cause you to overeat? If you are one of those people who tend to eat more when they are unhappy, it’s time to lighten up! Brighten your room, liven up the atmosphere – don’t live in dingy surroundings. Add some cheer to your home! Bin those 60-watt bulbs and place 100-watt bulbs in your room.

5. Incentivize Yourself: Need some cutting edge incentive if you have fat upper arms, get a tattoo high up on your arm. You can then work towards losing weight on your arms to show it off. If you want to lose weight on your belly, pierce your belly button or get a tattoo on your waist, just above where you wear your trousers. You will be aching to flaunt it!

6. De Stress: oftenWe live in a society that demands we do more, be more, and achieve more. Stress moves us forward and helps cope with life’s demands, but it also affects our mood and emotions. Stress response, whether it is ‘fight-or-flight,’ juggling too many responsibilities, or coping with financial pressures, triggers a biochemical process where our bodies go into survival mode. “Our bodies store fuel, slow down metabolism, and dump out chemicals [cortisol, leptin, and other hormones] which are more likely to cause … obesity in the abdominal region.

Many people reach for food to help ease the stress. But, of course, this doesn’t work in the long run. Food is a temporary fix because it does not deal with the real stressors that must be addressed in order to reduce the trigger for eating and fix the problem. Stress eaters tend to prefer high-carbohydrate foods because these foods trigger an increase in the brain chemical serotonin, which has a calming effect. It is almost like self-medicating. Many people binge on starchy foods to make themselves feel better.

It is recommended to use relaxation techniques such as yoga / Meditation, as well as exercise, which also burns calories and provides other health benefits. Also you can de stress yourself by developing a hobby like dancing, listening music, by playing sports like badminton, by socializing or even by going on holidays. Spending time with kids & playing with them, also de stresses you.
