Nebivolol
About Nebivolol
Nebivolol acts as a beta blocker, thus effectively controlling high blood pressure levels in the body. The drug lowers hypertension and thus preventing heart attacks or strokes and the onset of kidney problems. The drug is known to slow down the action of a few naturally occurring body chemicals, like epinephrine, on organs like the heart and the blood vessels of the body.
The action of the drug effectively helps lower heart strain and blood pressure as well. Nebivolol is meant to be consumed orally and may be taken before or after a meal. The dosage should be taken precisely as mentioned on the prescription. Your doctor may initially prescribe a low dose, increasing it gradually as per the drug’s effect on your body.
When it comes to the consumption of Nebivolol there are a couple of precautions that’s should be adhered to. For instance-
- Inform the doctor about any allergies you have,
- Give your doctor detailed information about the current medicines or supplements you are taking. This is primarily because some medicines may hinder the effect of Nebivolol resulting in complications. Such medicines include: amiodarone, sotalol, calcium channel blockers, insulin, digoxin etc.
- The doctor should be informed about any medical issues that you already have. This may include- diabetes, thyroid, kidney or liver disease, or blood circulation issues.
- Inform the doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding as consumption of Nebivolol may otherwise harm the child.
Some common side effects of Nebivolol include fatigue, weakness, headache, nausea, pain in the stomach and problems with sleep. In case these symptoms become very severe contact your doctor. It is to be noted that while the drug controls hypertension it does not cure the condition. Thus, blood pressure should be regularly checked.
Do not take Nebivolol if you:
- Have heart failure and are in the ICU or need medicines to keep up your blood circulation,
- Have a slow heartbeat or your heart skips beats (irregular heartbeat),
- Have severe liver damage,
- Are allergic to any ingredient in nebivolol tablets. The active ingredient is nebivolol. See the end of this leaflet for a list of ingredients.
