Covance 25 MG Tablet

Manufacturer: Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd
Medicine composition: Losartan
Prescription vs.OTC: Prescription by Doctor required

Covance 25 MG Tablet belongs to the angiotensin II receptor antagonists group of drugs. It prevents the blood vessels in your body from narrowing, thus lowering your blood pressure and improving the blood circulation. This medication has the ability to lower the possible risk of a stroke in people suffering from any heart condition. Apart from that, it can also slow down kidney damage among people with type 2 diabetes. You can take this medicine with as well as without food. It can take 3-6 weeks for your blood pressure to come under control after you have started a course of this medication.

Covance 25 MG Tablet is a prescription drug that is available in the form of an oral tablet. There are three main reasons for its usage. Firstly, it is used for the treatment of high blood pressure. The second usage is for reducing the risk of stroke in people, who already have high blood pressure as well as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). LVH is a condition where the left ventricle (chamber) of the heart thickens as a result of which the heart is unable to pump well. Lastly, Covance 25 MG Tablet is used for treating diabetic nephropathy, a kidney disease caused due to diabetes.

Covance 25 MG Tablet blocks the action of the chemical named angiotension II in the body, which causes the blood vessels to narrow and tighten. This medication helps the blood vessels to relax and eventually widen. It lowers your blood pressure, thus reducing your risk of having a stroke or kidney damage.

The dosage and the form of having Covance 25 MG Tablet depends on your age, severity of your condition, your medical history and also how your body reacts when you take the first dose. If you miss a dose, take it once you realize the missed dose. However, ensure that you do not take two doses at the same time just because you missed the previous one. Overdosing can make you feel dizzy, weak or a pounding heart.

There are some common side effects of Covance 25 MG Tablet that are generally mild and go away in a few days. They include:

I am 80 years old and have BP taking Covance D regularly. Now I have reduced it to three times a week and added one tablet daily of Mukta Vati of Patanjali for the last six months. My BP now is almost constant from 125-135 and 67-79. Should I reduce the medicine or stop it altogether. Kindly advise.

Keep BP under control. That is the most important. Check BP once every month. Whether ayurvedic or modern is your choice. Active part of mukta vati is reserpine, quite ok medicine. Reserpine was regularly used in modern medicine till 1984, when it got replaced by newer ones. Pharmaceutical companies sometimes encourage Drs to do such changes without good reason.

Hi Lybrate user. The estimation of GFR should be done always in consultation with a nephrologist as there are lot of other factors to be taken into account. And the normal values of GFR has a very wide range. Hence do a consult a nephrologist before getting worried unnecessarily. Also do a urine routine to look for protein loss.

Chronic Nephritis - How To Cope With It?

Chronic Nephritis - How To Cope With It?

Chronic nephritis is a type of Glomerulonephritis (GN). In this condition, irritation takes place in the Glomeruli, which are parts in your kidneys comprising tiny blood vessels. These knots of vessels filter your blood and remove excess fluids from the body. In case your glomeruli are harmed, your kidneys will quit working properly and you can suffer from kidney failure. It is a very serious illness that can be life threatening and requires immediate medical intervention.

The condition is also called nephritis. There can be both acute and chronic nephritis. The chronic type of GN can take several years to develop with almost no obvious symptoms. This can cause irreversible harm to your kidneys and also prompt complete kidney failure.

Causes and risks:
A hereditary condition can once in a while cause chronic nephritis. It happens in young men with poor vision and poor hearing. Persistent and untreated conditions may also bring about chronic nephritis. A history of cancer in the family may likewise put you at danger. Having acute nephritis may make you more prone to build up chronic nephritis later on. Being exposed to some hydrocarbon solvents may build the danger of chronic nephritis. Chronic nephritis does not generally have a clear-cut cause. About 25% of individuals with this condition have no history of kidney diseases.

Symptoms:
A few symptoms of chronic nephritis include:

  1. Blood or abundance protein in your urine
  2. Hypertension
  3. Swelling in lower legs
  4. Continuous urination during evenings
  5. Bubbly or frothy urine (from abundance protein)
  6. Stomach pain
  7. Continuous nosebleeds

Treatment:
Depending upon the symptoms of the problem, the treatment might be distinctive. Some of the ways it can be dealt with are:

  • Controlling hypertension, particularly if that is the hidden cause for the problem. Circulatory strain might be difficult to control when your kidneys are not working properly. If so, your specialist may prescribe pulse medicines, including angiotensin-changing over catalyst inhibitors. Some of these medicines include Captopril, Lisinopril and Perindopril.
  • Your specialist may likewise recommend angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Some of these may include Losartan, Irbesartan and Valsartan.
  • Another technique to reduce immune-triggered aggravation is plasmapheresis. This procedure expels the liquid part of the blood (plasma) and replaces it with intravenous (IV) liquids or donated plasma (without any antibodies).

For chronic GN, you will have to decrease the level of protein, salt and potassium in your diet. Also, you should observe the amount of fluid you drink. Calcium supplements might be suggested and you may need to take diuretics to lessen swelling. Not surprisingly, check with your general physician or kidney specialist for rules about dietary restrictions or food. In case your condition worsens and causes kidney failure, you may need dialysis. This is a technique where a machine filters your blood. In the end, you may require a kidney transplant. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Nephrologist.

Heart Failure - 4 Possible Causes Behind It!

Heart Failure - 4 Possible Causes Behind It!

Heart failure, which is also known as congestive heart failure, occurs when the heart muscle fails to pump sufficient blood as well as it should. The narrowed arteries in one’s heart or high blood pressure make the heart too weak to pump sufficient blood into the system. Heart failure can be prevented if people are aware of how to keep a check on the conditions which cause failure of the heart, like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity.

Symptoms

Heart failure can be of two types, either chronic, which is an ongoing one or acute, one which starts suddenly.  The signs and symptoms may include:

  • Dyspnea, which refers to the shortness of breath when a person exerts himself too much.

  • There can be fatigue and weakness.

  • There could be noticeable swelling in the legs, ankles and feet.

  • A person may not be able to do his exercises on a regular basis.

  • You can feel the need to urinate at night more often.

  • As fluid gets retained in the system, that results in rapid weight gain.

  • Chest pain can also take place, in case heart failure is caused as a result of heart attack.

Causes Behind Heart Failure

Heart failure can occur after certain conditions have led to the damage or weakening of the heart. Even when the heart becomes too stiff, that can lead to failure of the heart.  This situation involve the left side of the heart, right side or even both the sides but usually heart failure begins with the left side, especially the left ventricle, the heart’s main pumping chamber. Some of the most common causes behind heart failure are discussed below:

  • Heart attack and coronary artery disease: The most common form of heart disease is coronary artery disease, which is also the primary reason behind heart failure. The disease comes up from the build up of fatty deposits in the arteries, which lead to the reduction of blood flow, hence resulting in heart attack.

  • High Blood Pressure: Heart has to work harder to circulate blood throughout the body, if the rate of blood pressure is high.

  • Faulty heart valves: The valves of the heart help to keep blood flowing the proper direction. Now, when the valves get damaged due to heart attack, it forces the heart to put extra effort, hence leading to weakening of the valves over time.

  • Heart Arrhythmias: If the heart rhythms are abnormal, causing the heart to beat too fast, can in turn lead to heart failure.

Treatment

Treatment can take certain forms, which can help people live longer and stay healthy. The different forms of treatment could be through medications, wherein medicines like enalapril, lisinopril, losartan, valsartan could help widen blood vessels and hence lead to lowering of blood pressure, thus improving blood flow.

Inravenous medications like inotropes can help improve the heart pumping function and keep a check on blood pressure.

Other than medications, doctors could take the help of coronary bypass surgery to allow smooth flow of blood through the heart. They could even make a patient undergo heart valve replacement, wherein excess valve tissue is removed and hence the leaflets can close tightly.
