Avoid the following: 1) sugar, gur, sweets, sugary items like jams, jellies etc. 2) processed and ready to eat food like chips, namkeens etc 3) refined flour or maida items 4) cut down on saturated fat or solid fats like ghee, butter 5) fried foods like pakodas, samosas etc following food items should be taken in moderation: 1) fruits- mango, litchi, chickoo, grapes and bananas 2) vegetables- patatoes, sweet patatoes and arbi 3) suji or semolina and white rice 4) nuts like dates, raisins etc include more fibre in the diet as fiber helps in controlling the blood sugar levels. For this have plenty of vegetables and whole pulses. Include salad before each meal. As far as exercise is concerned, do stationary cycling and normal walk for 15- 20 minutes initially. Slowly and gradually increase it to 30 mins. Weight bearing exercises will improve bone density. Hope this will help.

Mr. Lybrate-user, sorry to know that toes were amputated due to injury and gangrene. That is one of the serious complication of not having adequate control on blood glucose. Ideally you should have fbs closer to 100 mg, pp 160 to 180 mg/100 ml and hba1c%<7. If you maintain this kind of a control on blood glucose, then there will be very few problems that may be encountered due to diabetes. You can do certain asanas, which are possible. Secondly do regular pranayam for about 45 minutes - like bhastrika, kapal bhati, baya, agnisar, anulom vilom, bhramari and udgit (om). Plus do regular manduk asana. These things will help in better control of blood glucose levels. Since no levels are mentioned, so there in no idea how good is the control. If you have any doubt please do come back. Thanks.

I think you should never give up mentally. Your body can be pushed more than what you are currently doing with it. You can join a Yoga class or get a Yoga instructor to your home. Also go to the park daily in the morning and evening and try to walk for 30 mins. Even if you are using walker, does not matter, but keep your limbs active as much as possible. Use 1 liter water bottle as dumbells to strengthen your arms. Eat whole grain or multigrain atta rotis. Eat fruits like apple, papaya. Eat dals, beans, mushrooms, lobia etc. Aim to live healthy for at least 50 years more. Life is precious! Never give up!
