Everybody keeps talking or writing diabetes, diabetes but nobody explains at what level of blood sugar of fasting, 2 hours PP or HA1bc is a person prediabetes or diabetic. Are levels different for age. What are the different symptoms. Request you to please educate us. Thanks in advance Can prediabetes be treated by medicine.

Hi, very true. Prediabetes is a real challenge now a days for public n doctor. It can be controlled by weight reduction n healthy diet. Prediabetes fasting range-110-126 mg/dl & pp 140-200 sugars. Medicines are given in only high risk individuals.

Mr. Lybrate-user, these details are everywhere. You have not looked at them. In a normal person fasting glucose range is 70 mg to 110 mg / 100 ml. After food level is <140 mg / 100ml. Prediabetic range fasting 100 to 125 mg /100 ml pp 141 to 199 mg /100 ml (this is also known as impaired glucose tolerance (igt)) diabetes is confirmed at fbs above or equal to 126 mg and pp equal or above 200 mg / 100 ml. These levels are true for all ages. There is no agewise difference in glucose levels.

Diagnostic criteria are same at all ages. Overnight fasting should be less than 100 and two hours after 75 gm glucose pp should be less than 140 for diagnosis if fasing is morethan 126 & 2hours after 75 g glucose pp is morethan 200 a person is labelled diabetic. Prediabetic fasting >100 but < 126 & pp > 140 but <200 hba1c normal<5.7 diabetes >6.5 prediabetes >5.7 but<6.5.
