Dear, unfortunate to hear that, however spinal operations are considerd to be major surgeries after which patient requires both time and effort to get back things to near normal. I am sure these things would have been explained to you pre-operatively also by the operating surgeon. Physiotherapy and exercises are the best possible things you can do at this time. And yes a good care of urinary catheter and hygiene is also necessary.

Once the spinal cord is damaged, very few cases power is regained, mostly patient is wheel chair bound.

She has to do exercises slowly so that she will become tired and the tone of the muscles and the blood circulation to the joints will get improved which will help to improve with the postural tone which will help to rebuild the old strength and that will make her to get good and sound sleep.
