For my diabetes I am taking glimepiride 2 mg, metformin sr 850 and human mixtard 70/30 two times both morning and night but my diabetes is not under control. I think I have hormone imbalance and my body produce too much cortisol or I have been converting type 2 to type 1. So hereafter can I treat with insulin alone for type 1 without taking above medicines. I am aged 56. See my history. I am diagnosed by diabetes after marriage at the age of 36 but from my childhood I made bed wed several times for many years now I think it is due to diabetes and during that time no treatment was taken. When I was small boy I ate 15 idly for breakfast since I felt always hungry and at present I am eating 5 idly only. I shall be very grateful if you kindly advice me a best treatment.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Since there are no details of any investigations of your childhood are available, it is difficult to say whether you had diabetes then or not. Secondly please let me know on what bases are you saying there is excess cortisol produces in your body? What is your height & weight? Any other symptoms to show that cortisol is in excess? Whether you have t1 or t2 there is a need to do c-peptide test. Please check with a good lab in your city about that and get the test done. Even in t2 dm patients can be well controlled on insulin alone. Thanks.
