What type of food a diabetic individual should have, how much calories & life style modification you want to prescribe.
People with diabetes have to take extra care to make sure that their food is balanced with insulin and oral medications (if they take them), and exercise to help manage their blood glucose levels. Healthy eating includes eating a wide variety of foods including: vegetables, whole grains，fruits, non-fat, dairy products, beans, lean meats, poultry, fish. Life style - stress free life and do regular exercise.
I am 38/male with type 2 diabetes. My sugar was at 250 after meals even when taking 500 mg metformin after each meal (total 1000 mg a day). Doctor has increased the dose to 1000 mg after each meal now. Sugar level have come down to 125 after meals. I want to ask if 2000 mg a day of metformin along with diet control and exercise can lower the sugar level too much i.e. Even below the normal level?
Since many factors are involved like diet, exercise and the individual persons body, it needs continuous (regular) monitoring by the doctor along with the investigations. The good thing would be to control the sugar with a disciplined and healhty lifestyle along with medicines as suggested by the doctor. The dosage of the medicine or the type of medicine can be changed by the doctor depending on the overall health condition and the reports. So keep going for the follow up and follow all the good habits with determination and enjoy good health. You can also learn Yoga which is very effective to balance all the aspects of health and keep you fit and energetic.

In internet I found that in case of diabetes it may occur too. So I have taken my test at home it has shown 190 I was shocked and unable to believe so within a minite I have taken second test this time 160 after that 138 it means my glucose level is flactuating. So I have taken a test in laboratary there before breakfast 70 and after breakfast 90. And I am over weighted too. So please guide me what to do ?

I am always feelings very lazy my b. P and sugar is normal we living in third floor without lift. Please suggest what should I do.
Mr Kapil, If you are feeling tired for no obvious reason then it is essential to get a hemogram and thyroid test done. Please tell me is there any noticeable change in the weight during last few weeks or month or so?.The reports will give us some idea about the possible reasons. In the mean time increase the protein intake and also green leafy vegetables and sprouted pulses.

I have been under thyroid medication for last one year and the TSH value remains 5.06 currently. Present dose is Thyronorm 50 mcg and Thyronorm 25 on alternate days (Since last 3 months). Also noted elevation in Serum Uric Acid level since last 6 months. Uric Acid is 7.8 at present. Having joint pains. Is there any connection between Hypothyroidism and increase in Uric Acid. Also SGPT is 75. Experiencing belly bloating continuously. Male 47 Weight 91 kgs Height 178 cms. Other medications: Nebicard 2.5, Cilacar 10 and Cilacar T once daily for Hypertension.
Increase your thyronorm to 50 microgarm daily. Take low purine diet. Do not worry for sgpt. Do some abdominal exercise regularly.

Hello. I am 23 years girl and fond of sweetening. As now a days the awareness about bad effect of sugar made me to think about it's consumption. So please let me know that What amount of sugar should we take everyday. Without causing any harm to our health. What is the substitute for white sugar that is more healthier than this. thanks.
lybrate-user, It is said a person consumes about 28 kgs of added sugar every year through various foods. This is in addition to sugar consumed through fruits & vegetables. Added sugar is mainly sucrose (white sugar) and fructose corn syrup which is added in foods. Excess intake of sugar is associated with obesity, hypertension and type 2 diabetes. There is nothing like upper limit. Basically it is best to avoid additional sugar totally if one wants to remain fit and healthy. There is no substitute to sugar. The synthetic substitutes also are harmful. Still one wants to consume more of sugar then it is his / her own choice. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user, Nice of you to care for your mom. The fluctuations in her sugar levels isn't entirely due to diet. Proper dose adjustment of antidiabetic drugs along with slight modifications in her timings and content of food will help.

Mr Ammu, Possibly those could be boils, due to skin/ hair follicle infection by Staph aureus. Need to be treated with proper antibiotics and analgesics. Plus you should have excellent sugar control.
