Hello there are missing teeth in d left side lower jaw. It has been nearly three years since they are removed. The dentists whom we consulted gave us two options, a bridge using the last wisdom tooth and second premolar teeth. He said its a long bridge n said that the bone under d gum may go down as she ages which ultimately leads to damage of the supporting tooth. He even said that he is going to do root canal before giving the bridge. Also suggested implant bridge. Asked us to prefer implants. Now can anyone pl tell me which is the best option and is there any problem if she goes for normal tooth supported bridge without root canal treatment of the healthy teeth? And will there be a sensitivity after they fix the bridge? After few years? The doctor said in both the cases (implant bridge n normal tooth bridge) food gets stuck and leads to infection? Is that true? Thank you. (Her age is 55 years and no health problems)

No doubt implants is a better option for sure. Yes it can lead to sensitivity later on, putting a crown on a vital tooth. You need to keep the area clean by brushing regularly and using interdental aids.

Hello Lybrate user, bridge with support of wisdom teeth that too long span involving two molars is not a good idea. Implant can be good option, provided you meticulously maintain proper oral hygiene. If she is not diabetic and can maintain proper oral hygiene placing implant can be good option. But neither of them is permanent, implant or bridge both have life of 10 to 12 yrs. If you are looking for non invasive treatment flexible denture can also be good option. Hope this helps.

Best option is to get implants. Implants take load and maintain the bone levels by stimulating bone whereas any bridge resorbs the remaining bone.

Hi Lybrate user, As you hv have written three teeth r absent, first option could be removable denture, cost effective and is an old way to rehabilitate the dentition. Second option is bridge, no matter support is comprised you can tell doctor to involve canine teeth as it increases the load area and is cost lyThird option is implants which involves minor surgery and no support from adjoining tooth, most expensive. These r options, removable one can be changed after some years, bridge can be made without RCT also.
