Most neck lumps are benign (noncancerous). Many are caused by minor conditions such as cystic acne or swollen lymph nodes. But a neck lump can also be a sign of a serious condition such as an infection or cancer. Any neck lump in a child or adult should be evaluated by a healthcare professional as soon as possible.
