My mother was diagnosed with hypertension 150/95 and was given medication atenolol 50 mg and amlodipine 2. 5 mg. And after 4 days when checked in home it was 128/85, is it advisable to stop medication? Or to be taken for life long?

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your mother has to take the medication continuously, the BP has come down because of the medication, if you stop it it will again rise - take the advise of your treating doctor if any alteration or change in medication is required - restrict salt & salty foods, avoid fried & processed food - she should have a well balanced diet, with more of fruits & vegetables including green leafy & seasonal ones, whole grains, low fat dairy & lean protein foods, nuts - do regular exercise like walking morning, evening for 20-30 min - try to sleep well for 6-7 hrs at least at night - check BP regularly.
