Erectile Dysfunction - Treatment, Procedure And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

When a male faces problems with getting or continuing to keep an erection during sexual intercourse, he may be suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). ED may result because of an underlying health issue such as heart disease, thus the problem should be discussed with a doctor as soon as possible.

As per the causes and extent of the problem the doctor will recommend a type of treatment which may include oral medication, penis pumps, penile implantation and even surgery. Psychological counseling is recommended to men who are suffering from stress and anxiety. Low self-esteem may also lead to ED. Counseling effectively helps men solve their mental health issues and overcome ED.

Oral medication may include drugs like Viagra, Cialis, Stendra, and Levitra, which enhance the nitric oxide effect in the body, thus improving blood flow in the penis. The dosage of the medicines will vary from individual to individual. These medicines do not aid in immediate erection, as they aren’t aphrodisiacs. Some form of sexual stimulation is necessary to trigger the release of nitric oxide and cause an erection.

Self-injections and Muse therapy, as well as testosterone replacement options, can also be suggested by doctors.

How is the treatment done?

In the case of Muse therapy, a special applicator is used to insert a small alprostadil suppository into the penile urethra. This should be inserted into the penis before intercourse. It takes about 10 minutes for the medicine to do its work and the erection may last from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

Testosterone replacement treatment is recommended for men who suffer from ED because of low levels of testosterone. The replacement of testosterone is generally done through injection or application of a patch. It may also be taken in gel or gum form.

A penis pump, which is also known as a vacuum erection device is situated just over the penis. The hollow tube is generally battery powered or hand powered. Once the pump is placed it removes the air from inside the device, creating a vacuum that triggers blood flow to the penis resulting in an erection. A tension ring is then placed at the penis base to keep the erection in place. The ring should be removed once intercourse is done.

Penile implantation is done through a surgical procedure in which the implants are located on two sides of a man’s penis. The implants may either be inflatable rods or semi-rigid rods. This form of treatment is very rare and is done only after other types of ED treatment have failed.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Erectile dysfunction can affect men at any age. Usually, older men tend to face this problem more than younger men. Men of all age can seek treatment for ED.

The treatment for ED generally depends on the diagnosis and will vary from individual to individual.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Depending on the health and certain other factors a doctor will advise a certain form of treatment to cure ED. While a type of treatment like oral medication may work for one patient, another may require a surgery.

Are there any side effects?

Treatment for ED is safe, but there may be few side effects such as:

  • Oral medication can lead to headaches, backache, changes in vision and stomach problems.
  • Self-injections can result in pain around the area where the needle is injected, bleeding and development of fibrous tissue around the injected area.
  • Side effects of muse therapy include slight urethral bleeding, pain and fibrous tissue formation.
  • Surgery as a treatment for ED is very rare and can lead to severe complications like infection.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Post-treatment patients generally are asked to make changes to their lifestyle. This includes a balanced diet and regular exercise. They are advised to quit smoking and reduce intake of alcohol.

How long does it take to recover?

Treatment for ED is generally in the form of oral medication which needs to be taken according to prescribed guidelines. Recovery after penile surgery takes about 2 to 4 weeks. One can resume sexual activity in about 6 weeks’ time.

In the case of ED due to stress or anxiety, individuals seek psychotherapy and recovery as and when they distress and learn to relax.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The cost of treating ED varies upon the kind of treatment one is seeking. It generally ranges from Rs 25,000 to 40,000 and even more in some cases.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

While effects of surgery and penile implants may be permanent, oral medication needs to be taken as and when a male who suffers from ED wants to indulge in intercourse.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

A number of alternative treatment for ED are also available. These include:

  • Nutritional supplements
  • Herbal medication
  • Acupuncture
  • Group therapy
Safety: High Effectiveness: High Timeliness: Low Relative Risk: Low Side Effects: Low Recovery Time: Medium Price Range: Rs. 25000 - Rs. 40000

Man to Man: Talking to a Friend About Penis Health

Man to Man: Talking to a Friend About Penis Health
Guys love to talk about everything and anything, but they seem to have serious problems talking about penis health. Since good penis care is so important to a man's health, sense of well-being and sensual satisfaction, it stands to reason that a guy would be more than ready to talk about it; however, that's not the case. So how can a man get to the point of feeling comfortable with talking about the equipment with another guy? Fortunately, there are lots of good answers to that. Here are a few. 1) Look for friends who are open-minded. Everybody knows how it works; some friends are those that keep their feelings close to the vest and never say much of anything, but there are others that start talking about sex and everything related as soon as they open their mouths. It's those latter friends that a guy might be tempted to talk to about penis health, but don't discount the quiet ones. They are the deep thinkers who might have some valuable insights. The idea is to find someone who is open-minded enough to know that talking about penis health is simply a matter of daily life, just like penis care is. 2) Choose the right time to talk. Two guys working hard on a construction site might not have the time or the inclination to talk about penis bumps or rashes. But two men sitting over a few cold beers might be more likely to discuss all matters below the belt. Wait until a chosen friend seems to be quite relaxed and talkative. 3) Broach the subject carefully. Don't just jump into the discussion, as that might get all kinds of side-eye. Instead, frame the situation as a story of sorts. "So the other night, I was getting ready to go out on a date with that hot girl and I looked down in the shower and saw these weird red marks on my penis." That's going to get the friend's attention, because this is a situation that he might know very well, and who doesn't want to help out a friend with their dating issues? 4) Back off if necessary. No matter how open a guy seems to be, if he tenses up and closes off when penis health is brought up in any way, it's time to back off. He's not ready to talk about it, and might never be. But at least now it's clear, and a man with questions can look to some of his other friends for advice. 5) Return the favor. If a man is open to talking about penis health, he's likely open to talking about his own problems as well. So when he does mention something like that, drop everything and focus on what he's saying. This is the kind of discussion that strengthens and solidifies a great friendship, so it deserves full attention. 6) Say thanks. Sometimes a guy might talk about penis health even though he's not really comfortable with it, just as a way to help make his buddy feel better. Whether or not that's the case, don't forget to thank that listening friend - profusely! "You've really set my mind at ease, man. Thank you so much!" is a great way to make him feel valued and helpful. Speaking of helpful, a man can help ensure the best penis health by using a specially formulated penis health cr me (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . A cr me that contains a wealth of nutrients, such as vitamin A to fight odor and vitamin C for overall health, is great. Other important ingredients include Shea butter and vitamin E, both of which provide hydration that leaves skin smooth, supple and ready for action.

How To Manage Honeymoon Impotence?

How To Manage Honeymoon Impotence?
Honeymoon impotence is quite common in orthodox societies where pre-marriage sex is considered more or less a taboo. It is a common scene in such areas where newlyweds arrive at a sexologist s cabin, complaining about their inability to perform sexual intercourse on their first night. The idea of First time sex itself gives goosebumps to most men and women. All the anxieties and worries can lead to either male s erection droop or female s vaginal contraction. Reason behind Honeymoon Impotence In most of the cases, ignorance and lack of awareness form the basic reason behind honeymoon erectile dysfunction. Especially in societies where sex education is not that common, it is likely that men and women are even unaware of common sexual positions. Family pressure, fear of displeasing the newlywed partner may get so overpowering that it may lead to erectile droop among men. Failure at the first instance may also create psychological pressure on the couple and as a result may lead to a series of impotence. The more the man is frantic to perform, the more are the chances that his erection shrivels. Similarly, the woman can also suffer from vaginismus. This is a condition in which out of anxiety and fear, the vagina of a female contracts so much that the penis can t penetrate. All such scenes must be handled with patience and by consulting a sexologist before the things start getting worse. Remedy Education is bliss: The first and the foremost remedy is educating oneself about male and female genital parts, normal sex positions which are easy to carry out etc. A brief illustration with the help of any video before performing actual sex may prove quite fruitful. Mutual Stimulation: It is not advisable to get obsessed only at penetrating the penis inside women s vagina. The newlywed should first prefer to get comfortable with each other while making love. Try to find pleasure in the sexual act rather than ruining things by getting anxious at the inability to penetrate at the first instant. The couple can also try masturbating each other. The male can make the female genital parts familiar to his penis by bringing it near to vagina. Some sexologists even advise to make use of sex toys like vibrator so that female vagina can get used to of infusing penis in it. Even some prescribed erection enhancing medicines can solve your case. Master your Brain: In most of the cases, it is the brain that plays the trick. So it is better not to hesitate. Share all your anxieties and worries with your partner. Get comfortable with each other and do not let the psychological factors to control your sexual act. Patience is definitely a deciding factor. Give time and open up with your partner and this will help in abating all your fears.

Natural Remedies For Erectile Dysfunction!
Erectile dysfunction can severely limit life s simple pleasures. It may also cause strife in one s marital life and be a cause for social embarrassment and low self-esteem. Erectile dysfunction, which is commonly referred to as impotence, is either the inability to continue with an erection into climax for a continued period, or being able to maintain the erection for a very short time or not being able to get an erection at all. Causes of Erectile Dysfunction According to Ayurveda Erectile dysfunction is usually caused due to a number of factors which include lifestyle habits, physical as well as psychological issues. Defects within the spinal cord, injuries or problems with blood flow may cause erectile dysfunction. An overly abusive childhood or sex associated with guilt may also be responsible. In Ayurveda, the disorder is linked to shukra dhatu . Any problem with this, may, thus result in multiple sexual problems including erectile dysfunction. How can Ayurveda help cure ED? According to Ayurveda, ED is basically a condition of low vitality. Generally, vitiation of vata dosha is responsible for Klaibya or ED. On the basis of the cause, seven types of Klaibya are mentioned in Ayurvedic texts, e.g. Manasik klaibya is caused by psychological factors, Doshaj klaibya is caused by physiological factors, Shukrakshayaj is caused by deficiency of Shukra dhatu, Vyadhi is cause by some other disease like diabetes, Aghataj is caused by surgical or accidental trauma, Shukranirodhaj is caused by suppression of sexual urge and Sahaj means congenital. Ayurveda takes a more holistic approach. The exact combination of the methods and the exact implementation chosen may vary according to the specific causes. Vajikarana therapy This is a holistic cleansing process that aims to correct the bodily faults which might have been causing ED. It includes certain processes, such as controlled regurgitation, to flush out toxins from the body, specially designed Ayurvedic massages, a tailor made diet, and various other herbal concoctions which can rejuvenate one s vitality. Specified drugs to correct ED Certain Ayurvedic herbs can be quite effective as well; both in the form of special Ayurvedic medicine or home remedies. These may affect pressure or sugar levels in your body as well as the heart s condition, thus resulting in ED. Ayurveda requires one to cut down on or quit certain habits related to one s lifestyle which might be causing ED. Yoga and meditation Regular exercises would definitely help in this regard. Meditation and yoga would thus be an integral part of the treatment process.

Treatment and Management of Erectile Dysfunction

Treatment and Management of Erectile Dysfunction
How to manage it effectively? There are enough options available which can keep every man sexually active regardless of the cause of erectile dysfunction (ed). Here's how therapy can take place. Counselling sessions: As with an electrical circuit, if there are any breaks in the system it will not function as a unit. Part of the process of psychosexual therapy would be to think about the actual emotional and/or psychological issues behind ed, and to attend to these with weekly counselling sessions. This realisation is an important first step for you to begin and resolve your erection problem. The patient normally implements the therapy advice at home, either alone or with a partner, between therapy sessions. This may help you maintain an erection for once, gradually building confidence. Relieving sexual anxiety: Telling your partner before you make love that you have this anxiety, and the feelings it causes. As a result, your partner will understand, and the two of you can work on it together. You can reduce some worries by being more giving with foreplay, even if your sexual performance isn't what you or your partner wanted, your partner will still be satisfied. Consider regular exercise which brings confidence in your body as your energy is also an important part of overcoming sexual anxiety. Non-medical therapies Watermelon juice (nature's viagra) and ginseng (herbal viagra): l-citrulline, an amino acid, present in watermelon can bring about significant improvement in blood flow to the penis, showing an improvement in erectile function. Another herb called ginseng, specifically 'red ginseng,' is known as the 'herbal viagra' that can improve sexual performance. Several research studies provide evidence for the effectiveness of these herbs in ed treatment. Kegel exercises: pelvic exercises, involving the portion of the body between your waist and thighs, are commonly known as kegel exercises. Three months of kegel exercises twice daily can help to significantly improve your erection ability which strengthens the penile muscle. They also promote urinary control. Acupuncture therapy: the acupuncture needles are placed in the wall of the abdomen. By stimulating specific acupoints, the practitioner aims to restore the proper flow of energy in the body resolving ed. Eat right: scientific study at Massachusetts on male aging has found that eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, fish with fewer red and processed meat, whole and refined grains decreased the likelihood of having ed. Intake of a daily multivitamin and fortified foods is the best remedies for treating ed. Walking: just 30 minutes of walking a day is linked to 41% drop in risk for ed. Moderate exercise can help restore sexual performance in obese middle-aged men with ed. Attention towards vascular health and making body slim: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can all damage arteries in the penis along with heart and brain thereby leading to ed. Maintaining a trim waistline is a good defence for ed, as men with a 42-inch waist are 50% more likely to develop ed in comparison to 32-inch waist people. Avoid excessive alcohol: chronic heavy drinking of alcohol can cause liver damage, nerve damage, and other conditions, interfering with the normal balance of male sex hormone (androgens) levels ultimately leading to ed. Intake of l-arginine: l-arginine, an amino acid, which is naturally present in the body and helps make nitric oxide, supports a successful erection. Nitric oxide is responsible for making the blood vessels relax, which helps sustain an erection for men. Medical therapy: Ed can also be treated with oral medications, drugs insertions or injections into the penis. Oral medications that are normally prescribed to treat the dysfunction work for about 80% of men. They work by boosting the natural signals, which are generated dur ing sexual activity so as to help you sustain an erection. Alprostadil is a type of medicine that causes blood vessels to expand, increasing blood flow to the penis, thus facilitate an erection. Cialis, Levitra, staxyn and viagra work by a similar mechanism to cause erections. There are subtle differences in how long the drug works and how quickly it works. A vacuum erection device is a plastic tube that slips over the penis, making a seal with the skin of the body. A pump at the other end of the tube creates a low-pressure vacuum around the erectile tissue, which results in an erection. Ayurvedic medications: Klaibya in Ayurveda is defined as the inability to attain and keep sufficient rigid (firm) erection which is very essential during sexual intercourse for the sexual needs or the needs of his female partner. Also vajikarana in Ayurveda means producing a horse's vigor. Some of the herbs used in vajikarana include: Bulb of allium sativum (garlic) Root of asparagus recemosus (shatavari) Root of boerhavia diffusa (punarnava) Whole part of Cocculus cardifoli (guduchi) Root of panax ginseng (ginseng) Seeds of myristica fragraus (nutmeg) Leaf and root of withania somnifera (ashwagandha) Leaf and seeds of ginkgo bioloba (ginkgo) Pitch of asphaltum bitumen (shilajit) Dried root of lepidium meyenii (maca)

5 Important Foods For Treating Impotency In Males!
Male impotence is also commonly known as erectile dysfunctioning. This is a common problem faced by men as they age. Impotence can be described as the inability to have or maintain an erection for long enough to have intercourse. Though the risk of impotence increases with age, age does not trigger this condition. Impotence can be triggered by a traumatic experience, certain medications or medical conditions etc. In most cases, impotence is temporary and can be relieved by simple home remedies. However, it should be noted that what works for one person may not work as effectively for another and hence it may be necessary to experiment with different remedies. Garlic: Garlic boosts the immune system and also serves as a powerful antiseptic. Additionally, it also functions as a sex rejuvenator and hence is effective in case impotency is triggered by traumatic experience and diseases. To benefit from garlic, chew 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic daily. Garlic bread that is made with whole garlic cloves can also aid in the production of healthy sperm cells. Onion: Though many people shy away from onions for their odour, it is considered an aphrodisiac that enhances the libido. It can treat premature ejaculation, impotency and the involuntary loss of sperm cells while asleep. To use onions as a remedy for impotence, fry a crushed onion in butter and mix with a spoon of honey before eating it on an empty stomach. Drumstick: Drumstick can be used to cure impotency, premature ejaculation and thicken semen. It is often used to treat functional sterility in both men and women. Boil 15gm of drumstick flowers in 250ml of milk or boil 120gms of dry drumstick bark in its powdered form with a litre of milk for half an hour. While the former mixture can be strained and had as it is, mix 30 gms of the latter with 1 tablespoon of honey. To experience the benefits of the drumstick, this should be taken three times a day. Dates: Dates strengthen the body and have the ability to increase sexual drive, endurance and overall vitality. It also calms the mind and helps fight stress that could be causing impotency. Pound equal quantities of dried dates, almonds, pistachio nuts and quince seeds. Take about 100 gms of this mixture each day to see effective results. Asparagus: The dried roots of asparagus are also known as white musli. In traditional Unani medicine, this is known as an aphrodisiac and a form of treatment for impotency. Boil 1 cup of milk with 15 gms of dried asparagus roots and have the mixture twice a day on a daily basis to benefit from it.

Psychological issues like Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Relationship issues also can contribute to Erection problems. Acupuncture, Moxibustion & Hijama treatments can definitely help you to come out of this issue without use of unwanted medicine. Diet & Lifestyle changes would be advised as part of the treatment protocol. You can also try to take following supplements to improve your erection-Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA, Horny goat weed (epimedium, Ginkgo,L-arginine, Red ginseng, Yohimbine etc. Ayurvedic supplements like Indian Ginseng, Asparagus racemosus, Safed musli etc also can be helpful. But consult a Doctor before starting any supplements. Practicing Kegel's (Pelvic Floor) exercise can also help. The best method for locating the muscles of the pelvic floor is to stop your stream several times in the middle of urination. The muscles you clench to do this are the ones you need to exercise. To perform a Kegel exercises, squeeze those muscles, hold for five seconds, then relax. Repeat this 10 to 20 times, two or three times a day. You can try this in different positions, including lying down with your knees up, sitting in a chair, and standing. Another way to think about Kegels is to squeeze the muscles of your anus, like you are holding a bowel movement. Hold for five to 10 seconds while breathing, then relax all muscles.
