Erectile Dysfunction - Treatment, Procedure And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

When a male faces problems with getting or continuing to keep an erection during sexual intercourse, he may be suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). ED may result because of an underlying health issue such as heart disease, thus the problem should be discussed with a doctor as soon as possible.

As per the causes and extent of the problem the doctor will recommend a type of treatment which may include oral medication, penis pumps, penile implantation and even surgery. Psychological counseling is recommended to men who are suffering from stress and anxiety. Low self-esteem may also lead to ED. Counseling effectively helps men solve their mental health issues and overcome ED.

Oral medication may include drugs like Viagra, Cialis, Stendra, and Levitra, which enhance the nitric oxide effect in the body, thus improving blood flow in the penis. The dosage of the medicines will vary from individual to individual. These medicines do not aid in immediate erection, as they aren’t aphrodisiacs. Some form of sexual stimulation is necessary to trigger the release of nitric oxide and cause an erection.

Self-injections and Muse therapy, as well as testosterone replacement options, can also be suggested by doctors.

How is the treatment done?

In the case of Muse therapy, a special applicator is used to insert a small alprostadil suppository into the penile urethra. This should be inserted into the penis before intercourse. It takes about 10 minutes for the medicine to do its work and the erection may last from 30 minutes to 60 minutes.

Testosterone replacement treatment is recommended for men who suffer from ED because of low levels of testosterone. The replacement of testosterone is generally done through injection or application of a patch. It may also be taken in gel or gum form.

A penis pump, which is also known as a vacuum erection device is situated just over the penis. The hollow tube is generally battery powered or hand powered. Once the pump is placed it removes the air from inside the device, creating a vacuum that triggers blood flow to the penis resulting in an erection. A tension ring is then placed at the penis base to keep the erection in place. The ring should be removed once intercourse is done.

Penile implantation is done through a surgical procedure in which the implants are located on two sides of a man’s penis. The implants may either be inflatable rods or semi-rigid rods. This form of treatment is very rare and is done only after other types of ED treatment have failed.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Erectile dysfunction can affect men at any age. Usually, older men tend to face this problem more than younger men. Men of all age can seek treatment for ED.

The treatment for ED generally depends on the diagnosis and will vary from individual to individual.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Depending on the health and certain other factors a doctor will advise a certain form of treatment to cure ED. While a type of treatment like oral medication may work for one patient, another may require a surgery.

Are there any side effects?

Treatment for ED is safe, but there may be few side effects such as:

  • Oral medication can lead to headaches, backache, changes in vision and stomach problems.
  • Self-injections can result in pain around the area where the needle is injected, bleeding and development of fibrous tissue around the injected area.
  • Side effects of muse therapy include slight urethral bleeding, pain and fibrous tissue formation.
  • Surgery as a treatment for ED is very rare and can lead to severe complications like infection.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Post-treatment patients generally are asked to make changes to their lifestyle. This includes a balanced diet and regular exercise. They are advised to quit smoking and reduce intake of alcohol.

How long does it take to recover?

Treatment for ED is generally in the form of oral medication which needs to be taken according to prescribed guidelines. Recovery after penile surgery takes about 2 to 4 weeks. One can resume sexual activity in about 6 weeks’ time.

In the case of ED due to stress or anxiety, individuals seek psychotherapy and recovery as and when they distress and learn to relax.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The cost of treating ED varies upon the kind of treatment one is seeking. It generally ranges from Rs 25,000 to 40,000 and even more in some cases.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

While effects of surgery and penile implants may be permanent, oral medication needs to be taken as and when a male who suffers from ED wants to indulge in intercourse.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

A number of alternative treatment for ED are also available. These include:

  • Nutritional supplements
  • Herbal medication
  • Acupuncture
  • Group therapy
Safety: High Effectiveness: High Timeliness: Low Relative Risk: Low Side Effects: Low Recovery Time: Medium Price Range: Rs. 25000 - Rs. 40000

When a man becomes sexually excited (aroused), his brain sends signals to the nerves in his penis. The nerves increase the blood flow to the penis, causing the tissue to expand and harden. Anything that interferes with the nervous system or the blood circulation could lead to erectile dysfunction. Anything that affects the level of sexual desire (libido) can also cause erectile dysfunction because a reduced libido makes it more difficult for the brain to trigger an erection. Psychological conditions, such as depression, can reduce libido, as can changes in hormone levels (chemicals produced by the body). Physical causes There are four main types of health conditions that can cause physical problems resulting in erectile dysfunction. These are: Conditions affecting the flow of blood to your penis vasculogenic Conditions affecting your nervous system, which is made up of your brain, nerves and spinal cord neurogenic Conditions affecting your hormone levels hormonal Conditions affecting the physical structure of your penis anatomical Injuries and surgery Penis injuries or surgical treatment of the penis, pelvis or surrounding areas can sometimes lead to erectile dysfunction.

7 Causes Of Premature Ejaculation
There are various phases of sexual activity that include attraction, stimulation, excitement and peak. These stages usually come in close sequence and follow a normal course until the sexual peak ends in sexual orgasm. Yet, this process can be hindered by a condition known as premature ejaculation that many men suffer from. Premature ejaculation happens when a man ejaculates sooner than required or planned, in the process of sexual activity and intercourse. This usually happens within a minute or so of penetration. There are a variety of causes for this, starting from biological to psychological. Read on to know more about these causes. - Erectile Dysfunction: This condition is one where the male patient experiences trouble during sexual encounters and experiences. As per this condition, the patient will have difficulty in mustering up and thereafter, retaining an erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. This condition can also contribute to premature ejaculation. - Chronic Health Issues: Many male patients who are suffering from chronic health issues are at serious risk of developing premature ejaculation in the long run. These health issues range from diabetes to heart disease. Due to these diseases and ailments, the patient may feel considerable stress or even may not be able to ejaculate later in the process of intercourse. - Anxiety: Anxiety is one of the primary reasons for such physical problems that one experiences during sex. These patients may be suffering from anxiety due to their performance in bed, or they may be anxious about a new relationship or partner. This anxiety can lead to a state where the patient is not able to fully enjoy the act of intercourse and ends up ejaculating prematurely. - Relationship problems: Another issue that many male patients suffering from this condition face includes relationship problems. These problems can create trouble in the sex life of the patient due to which sex may not be happening on a frequent or regular basis. Due to this, the ejaculation may also suffer, leading to further stress. - Biological Issues: There are a number of biological problems due to which men may also experience premature ejaculation and other related health issues. Abnormal hormonal levels and an imbalance in the state of one's hormones can lead to this condition. Also, there are instances where the neurotransmitters of the brain enjoy an abnormal level of activity which can lead to an abnormal reflex reaction in the ejaculatory system of the patient. Nerve damage can also lead to this condition. - Thyroid: Male patients suffering from thyroid problems have also reported instances where premature ejaculation becomes a problem. This condition can also be an inherited one. It is best to take a professional opinion and seek therapy for treatment.

The Method of Anal Breathing!
Anal breathing is the beginner s version of Tao s Qi Gong. It focuses on the lower portion of the body. Anal breathing helps young men and boys suffering from critical sex problems such as impotence and weak erection. The knowledge of anal breathing is passed by the Tao masters of China thousands of years ago. This method aims at enhancing the bio-energy flow from the conception vessel and Governor's vessel. Once the technique is mastered, it can fetch rich benefits to people suffering from sexual problems. How is anal breathing done? The procedure starts with a simple exercise of the butt. While urination, light pressure needs to be applied to the bladder by pushing the ankles and the heels upward and squeeze the buttocks against the anus and the tailbone. This will stop urination by contracting the PC muscles and the prostate gland. This, in turn, makes the buttock muscles trigger the s4-s2 muscles to close the prostate-bladder outlet. Similar width of the shoulder and the leg should be maintained at all times while performing this technique. Slight pressure should be exerted against the bladder and the buttocks should be contracted against the tailbone until it becomes warm. The contraction of the butt should be synchronized with the inhalation. While inhaling, it should be ensured that the muscle of the tailbone-anus should be contracted towards the spine. The air should be sucked into the spine, anus and the tailbone of an individual. The sensation of the air getting into the anus is known as anal breathing. Tips to contract the muscles: Beginners have a tendency to contract the anal muscles harder than necessary. Hard contractions end up in doing more harm than good. With more practice, it is possible to master the procedure of contracting the tailbone-anus muscles thereby improving the quality of the erection. The pressure applied to the bladder should be very less. The pressure should be such that the relaxation and the expansion of the prostate and the PC muscles happen smoothly. In case a person possesses a weak prostate or PC muscle, it is advised that he consumes herbs such as the Patricia, Pyrrosia, dianthus etc. Check the reservoir: If the morning erection is no more felt or there is a feeling of fatigue in an individual, the testosterone percentage may be extremely low or non-existent. It is the testosterone that produces nitric oxide to empower erection. If testosterone is lagging in a person, it is advised that necessary measures are taken to build up testosterone levels in the body. This could be done by hormonal therapy, consumption of herbs, medications and such other ways. Ayurveda is the perfect way through which you can get treated for the same, for more details consult.

Hello, Varicocele can not cause ED but it can affect your fertility as it is one of the most common factors of infertility. It can be completely cured with the help of ayurvedic medications. Herbs correct the blood flow in dilated veins and prevents regurgitation. Surgery is not successful as it has a very high recurrence rate within a year. Do go through the detailed video in my profile, regarding the same.
